I posted a message back on 9/5/04 concerning a loud engine noise problem while traveling from Goose Creek, SC to Roswell, NM.

That noise has been found.

According to Cap Rock Diesel in Hobbs,NM my #4 cylinder is scored and piston damaged(ring/skirt areas). This was (maybe) caused by a fueling problem. The injectors are in Odessa, TX being tested as I write this. Engine is out and head is off, etc. No damage to top of piston and head. But there is damage to piston and rings.

Cap Rock is going to sleeve #4, new piston/rings. Hopefully one of the injectors will fail the test.

I think I should probably replace all the injectors(stock).

Anyone else heard of this or had similiar problems?

As previously described, engine has 104000 miles. This is 1st engine problem.

Sorry to hear that :(

Grrr I still hate the idea On sleeves in a Parent bore block. They do do it but What are the chances of payin out the difference on a new block?

I have the dual Amsoil filters and the cooling oil nozzle was deemed to be ok. We pulled the oil filter per advice from a diesel shop looking for aluminum particles. There were none. The first thought was the same as yours. Now it is narrowed down to a fueling problem. If the injectors come back 'OK', I don't know what to do.

Thanks for the response.
