I love it... .
A who's "cheaper" question ends up in a "vs" war.
Least expensive oil I can find at the moment is AMSOIL. Problem is... no instant gratification, and it takes a little math to figure out. But you seem "thrifty" so... that shouldn't bother you if it saves a buck or two. .
Course I'm quite sure my post will be followed by a 3 page letter about LE vs. AMSOIL... . bla bla bla. .
Example: Brother-in-law converts his 97' Ram 4x4 w/55K on the odo from Rotella to AMSOIL in Spring of 2000.
Rotella @ ~$1. 50 a quart x 11= $16. 50
AMSOIL @ ~$5. 00 a quart x 11= $55. 00
Based on 30K miles a year, and changing oil every 15K... . as some have indicated they do... even with Rotella. And for the sake of avoiding the "vs" war... All things being equal. (after all, this isn't a performance or longevity/interval post!. . but rather a cost question)
Rotella costs $33. 00 a year
AMSOIL cost $110. 00 a year
MPG with Rotella City 17/ HW 20
MPG with AMSOIL City 18/ HW 22
Sorry no "tenths" used here. .
Fuel usage per year based on $1. 70 a gallon for Diesel. (PA)
Rotella ~1764 x $1. 70 = $2,998
AMSOIL ~1666 x $1. 70 = $2,832
Therefore, Annual costs:
Rotella + fuel($33. 00 + $2,998) = $3,031. 00
AMSOIL + fuel($110 + $2,832)= $2,942. 00
Thus, on Dec 31st ... you'll have "saved" $89 bucks. .
Which means... even if they "give you" Rotella... AMSOIL is still $56 bucks a year less.
Its your money. .
