engine question

If I put it in 3rd and run the rpm's to 3500 holding the pedal all the way down... then let off the pedal and push in the clutch the rpm's stay at 3500 for 3 to 4 seconds. Any ideas why this is? I'm new to this 3rd gen so bear with me. I've owned a second gen for 7 years and got to know all the little issues with that truck. Now its a whole new ball game.

My 03, and my buddies 05 both do it, don't hold me to it but I think it's for emissions, it stays up there to burn off extra fuel injected into the cylinder.

I believe it's residual rail pressure, but don't hold me to that.
