Hello yall. I have a problem with the rear oil seal on the engine. I have the transmission removed, but need detailed instructions on how the heck to put this friggin' seal in! Truck is '92 model auto and is very much needed, so any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If its like the second gen 12v.

1. Remove the rearseal housing and gasket (six bolts)

2. Carefully drive the old seal out of the housing.

3. Clean the seal housingwell.

4. Re-assy the seal housing to the engine block.

5. Align the seal housing to the crankshaft with the alignment pilot provided in the new seal kit, level both sides of the housing to the block oil pan rail and tighten to 7 ft. lbs torque.

Seals with rubber on the outer ring surface use soapy water as lube, steel surfaces use loctite 277. Crankshaft and seal should be cleand and dry or it will likely leak.

Use seal pilot w/kit and place it over the end of the crankshaft. Push the seal onto the crank, remove the pilot, use the alignment installation tool and drive the seal into the housing (don't get it cocked).

Some engines do not use the seal housing (manual trans)

The R&R instructions are similar, but without the seal housing.

A number 10 sheet metal screw in the old gasket with the slide hammer is the trick for removal.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks for the help, Andy. I got it going because it was basicly like the front seal on my 1996 and 1998, only bigger. So far, no leaks! Unfortunately, this truck is the %$#*& auto!
