I don't know if you know what a pallet slip-sheet is, but they make awesome cold weather radiator restrictors. Every warehouse worker, forklift, or truck driver knows what I'm talking about. Better yet, you can cut a flap in the middle and adjust how much cold air reaches your radiator by folding it all the way or part way open or leaving it closed when you slide it in. They are entirely waterproof thin sheets of very tough flexible plastic (thinner than cardboard) that can be cut and trimmed with scissors to slide very nicely between your radiator and intercooler (which you don't want to restrict air flow through like external, grill-mounted winter fronts do).

I leave an extra few inches sticking out at the top to make it easy to grab onto & remove when not needed. Just fold it over. Popping the hood takes longer than sliding it in or out. In the off-season, it rolls up very compactly and stores in my toolbox. Get some extras and keep a full sheet (about 4' square) rolled up & stored in your truck for those times when you need to slide underneath it without benefit of a creeper - they're very tough and slippery and slide nicely on dirt, mud, gravel, snow, cement, or whatever. I keep a large heavy plastic semi mudflap at home for doing similar driveway repairs/inspections.

hello scott i have never heard of pallet slip-sheet! i will sure try to find some as i agree i dont agree with the exterior bra's & have always used card board slipped in front of the radiator. thxs for the reply scott dansel

DAnsel,

i have been watching this thread because i have the same problem with a 96 that i have and was wondering you get it fixed? I not trying to hijack this tread but on my truck i put two new thermostats and have a piece of cardboard in front of radiator and no fan and still can't get the tempter up the other day 25 to 27 deg. out at 60 mph. the was only 140, 150 my temp. gauge is working because the higher the temp. gauge goes the more heat come out of the heater i don't know else to do but need get it fixed

hi 63shult I have changed factory tstate, coolant temp sensor, fan clutch, radiator hoses, tested gauge panel all ok,my next move is to install a 1973 charger 440 tstate 195 degree as soon as I find time.i read somewhere some one did this with success, I will let you know if it helped. wish I could have helped more. dansel (63shult the above state worked at 190 scroll down to & read my comments)

A friend of mine has a '98 with an automatic that had the same issues yours has. He found a thermostat on ebay that solved the problem. I don't know what makes this thermostat so special but it was the one thing that solved the problem. We brainstormed and tried all kinds of crazy things that one shouldn't have to do to keep a truck at operating temperature. This worked.

What is so special about those thermostats that set them apart from other brands? I read through your link but did not find any description.

thanks for the replies

my problem is not my temp. cycling it just does not get above 140-150 deg

dansel i installed a tstate from a 1973 charger 440 195 degrees IT RUNS 190 WITH OUT ANY FLUXIATION EXCEPT UP HILL THEN ONLY I I/2 & immediatly returns to 190 @ the top (was only about 2 mile hill) all total it was a 50 mile test hop. i think its a keeper

jmarinaccio i just installed a tstate from dodge for a 1973 440 charger 195 in 50 miles test hop it ran 190 w/o any flux except uphill and gained 1 1/2 & corrected to 190 at the top ( only 2 mile hill) running 70 mph the whole trip.
