I know this is hard to believe but after switching to Delo 400 the engine chirp at shutdown has gone away. I think it may have done it once, but that is all in the past two weeks. Anyone else have this same thing happen or is it just me?

Coincident

There is no correlation between the two. Is just the belt slipping when the motor comes to a halt. Unless the Delo is so much better that the reduced friction is letting the motor stop a fraction of a second slower. (Unlikely)... ... When I switched to synthetics it made no difference... ... thankfully:D :D :D

My . 02 worth;)

The best theory that I have heard explaining the screech is that the autos will do it due to the relatively light flywheel and torque converter allowing the engine to come to a stop faster, while the heavier flywheel found on the 5 and 6-speed trucks won't allow the engine to stop spinning quite as fast giving the fan just a little longer to get stopped and preventing the screech.

I had a '99 auto that would screech all the time (I kinda liked it :D) but my "01 6-speed hasn't let out a good screech yet :(

I think is has a lot to do with the eng. temp. If the fan is engaged mine will allways do it. If eng. is cool and fan not engaged, no chirps. :D

Mikel is right,my auto, and my dad's will squeal like mad,my buddies HO never squeals at all,not once. you can hear that when he shutsdown the motor turns over a few more seconds,as where the auto trucks,it comes to a stop much quicker.

My 99 Auto, does it , but not always, maybe 50/50.

21K miles on it. .

My buddy's '01 HO 6 speed never does it. I thought I remember him saying that he read somewhere that Dodge did something to help prevent it.

He's disappointed...

Screech

I replaced the belt with a Goodyear Gatorback and the screech is gone. It used to happen about 1/2 of the time when I shut it down. Not anymore!

I will agree with this completely. Mine did it every single time until recently. I just put a Horton fan clutch on and it hasn't done it once since! Weird. I thought well, that OEM fan and viscous hub was surprisingly heavy and thought that since that was gone, that was what stopped it chirping. But Wait! Think about that one and the logic was all wrong. Less mass without the fan and the engine would be stopping faster. I guess the fan helped propel the belt around the serpentine circus and when the engine stopped,... ..... But now, very little mass attached there when the fan clutch is not engaged and haven't heard a chirp since.
