engine shut down

Friend has a 2012 6.7 when he uses remote start engine runs for about 10 seconds and shuts down.
Immediately goes out and inserts key fires it up and it stays running no problem. Any ideas on the cause of the shut down with remote start .

Not enough fuel in tank is one reason for it.
Doesn't the EVIC tell him why the RS was aborted? Mine does.

Otherwise there are a bazillion of inputs to the ECM that all can switch of the RS.

As Ozy said low fuel will definitely shut it down and as he also said many other inputs for it as well such as door ajar not sure it will even start at all with that seems to me I ran into that one time. Was loading the truck with it off then left the door open well not latched and tried to rs it. Brake pedal depressed is another one iirc, just pulled up the manual for my 2017 below is a list of items from the manual

How To Use Remote Start All of the following conditions must be met before the engine will remote start:
• Gear selector in PARK
• Doors closed
• Hood closed
• HAZARD switch off
• BRAKE switch inactive (brake pedal not pushed)
• Ignition key removed from ignition switch
• Battery at an acceptable charge level
• PANIC button not pushed
• Fuel meets minimum requirement
• System not disabled from previous remote start event
• Vehicle security alarm not active

With wiTECH the dealer can pull the inhibits for the remote start. It will list the reason for the last 8 times it didn't complete the start.
