Slow day - videos, anyone?

Ever seen this?

Is it just me or am I being petty? But I am starting to HATE the sound of Duramax's and Powerstrokes. They (in my opinion which is admitedly biased) sound more like food prosesors or coffee grinders. And with exhaust mods they sound worse. The Fords sound like someone pulled a couple of plug wires out of a gasser. Just awfull. Am I alone?

I agree, plus they don't smell like a real diesel. The exhaust thing really gets me too. I have two buddies who one owns a powerstroke and the other a d-max. They both straight piped their trucks and sound no different than stock. Even at WOT, no change. But I've heard ford & chevy trucks who have aftermarket exhaust systems and they sound terrible. I would never own anything else. Love my CTD!!

No sir------your exactly right. They do sound awful------like a large flatulating sewer pipe or something. I dunno why. I have always felt that the best sounding engines in the world were inline sixes and V12's. Speaking of V12's, you should have heard that Audi R10 TDI V12 as it was spanking everybody at the Sebring 12 hour. Very nice... ... ...

oh you don't just adore the wonderful sound of a furd 6. 0 starting up, sounds like someone kicked a metal box of washers down a flight of stairs as it rattles to life, and the delightful stench that it makes of diesel, the chebby is not as offensive in sound or smell, ford has truly created something special

What is up with the different smell? Had a powerstroke go by me in a parking lot the other day and it smelled funky, nothing like a diesel.

I think that the smell of newer diesels, in general, smell different. I just get a good whiff of the fine bouquet from old '81 Rabbit diesel when I need a good fix.

I agree. I was filling up my wife's gasser the other day. There was a duramax behind me at the diesel pump. I couldn't figure out what the sound was at first. I thought, "who is running a coffee grinder out here by the pumps". Then I realized that the duramax was running. Wierd.

Last summer when we were camping a Duramax drove by and stopped at the next site and took a few minutes to get parked. My wife looks at me and tells me the best thing about the sound of a Duramax is when it stops.

About a year ago, a Duramax passed me on the highway. The owner apparently removed all sound deadening devices in the exhaust system because when he tromped the pedal, it literally scare me. When I regained my senses I realized that a Duramax sounds really bad without a muffler. Raspy and quite obnoxious.

I know this is off the topic, but everyone that hears me before they see me tell me all the time, "I expected to see a 18 wheeler", "what you got in that thing"? I tell them, it's just a Cummins. Since I put the SPS 62 and got rid of the 03/04 cast elbow that shrinks down to 3 and a half and put the true 4 inch elbow into 5 inch turbo back exhaust into the 5 inch stacks, she's deeeep. I mean I rattle window's in the neabor hood. The turbo sings through the pipes like it's cool... Everyone that I've ever talked to loves it :)

I had a lady at the grocery store ask me that once. "Why does your truck sound like a semi-truck?" I told her it's cause it has a baby semi engine in it. Man, I miss my Cummins :(

I agree about the Dmaxes and PSDs. The PSDs sound crappy straight-piped, like a flutter or something. Haven't heard but a few piped Dmaxes.

It pisses my buddies off when I tell them that their trucks sound and smell like bunghole. They tell me my truck is tooooo loud and has a bad stinch. My duramax buddy gets mad every time I say "What's that smell... is that rice burnin" :-laf . These trucks are by far the best sounding... . and smelling with the smoke rolling from the stacks :D . Don't know anyone that could like a strait piped chevy or ford

Yeah! And speaking of great engine sounds, ya'll should have heard that Audi TDI V12 diesel as it was spankin' some butt at the 12 hours of Sebring! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! 6s and 12s... ... ... . sweet mechanical music!
