Have had an infrequent engine stall problem that has gotten worse now that it is cold... . I suspect my PacBrake PBXR is the cause... . I leave it on all the time unless I'm using my GearVendor overdrive..... Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the fix?

2005 Silver Laramie 3500 Quad Cab Dually 4wd 6sp (G56) 14,400 miles, PacBrake PBXR Exhaust Brake, GearVendor Overdrive, UnaGoose Goose Neck Hitch, Leer Canopy, Line-X Bedliner, EZdown on tailgate, Willmore Mfg Nerf Bars, Weathertech Floor liners (front & back). MBRP SS cat back dual exhaust purchased and waiting to install.

Back up camera and hook up for back up camera when towing trailers, Gauge package, 19" aluminum wheels, Adjustable pedals.

Nope - no problems with the Pac in the cold. I use mine all the time, too unless there is a lot of ice on the road (I'm currently in the Denver, Co area)

Help us help you, What type of driving scenario is causing the stalling? i. e. whats going on (driving style) (load or no load) are you giving a little or a lot of throttle etc... ... My truck has a stalling problem right now that I'm scratching my head over, as it's been darn reliable for 44K miles until all of a sudden. Mine happens random, sometimes when the motor is cold or I have been driving for an hour in traffic. I give it some throttle, as to leave from a light and it falls flat on it self. My problem goes & comes month to month and will do it 3x to 4x that day and then won't for a week to a month. I'm not throwing a CEL or setting any codes either, dealer can't help since it won't do it when I take it to the dealer. All I can say it runs smooth as glass with a full bottle of 96oz or Powerservice Deisel Kleen, then starts acting up again about the 2nd full tank of fuel without additive.

Are you getting any smoke from the tailpipe when this happens?

Thanks Ryan for your reply.

Most of my stalls occur:

*In a turn where I've had to slow down to make the turn

*PacBrake is on..... I can't remember any stall where the PacBrake hasn't been on... ... Note - I don't have the airtank in my system they give away for free now, so it takes just a bit longer for the brake to engage as it has to build up pressure from the air pump.

*No throttle

*No load

*Engine not up to temp... ... This is not as common as it has happened with the engine at full temp.

*No time to look if there is smoke as it is darn scary dying in a turn and trying to keep her going the right direction with no power steering!

*CEL doesn't come on

Additional suspicion... ... The first time I remember the stall occurring was when I was about half way through a tank of bodiesel... ... For a brief while in our area biodiesel was cheaper than regular diesel so I filled up... ... I ran 20% bio one additional time but the vast majority of my fuel is dino diesel... ... As I'm writing this I realize I haven't installed the new fuel filter that has been sitting on my shop bench for 4 months now... ... I'm at 17,800 miles so replacing the filter is a good idea having run the tank of biodiesel this past summer.

Hope this helps.

Well it happened again on the way to work today... ... This time I was really paying attention... ... The stall happened in a 15mph 90 degree turn, engine cold, PacBrake on, decelerating, clutch pedal down... ... . Once I pushed the clutch in during the turn to downshift to 2nd the engine died and Wow Nelly it was another quick fight to keep her out of the oncoming lane and get her restarted... ... This problem is downright dangerous!

I really think I need the clutch cancel switch that the good folks at Camping World in Wilsonville, OR never recommended when they installed the PacBrake last year... ... . Don't you just love salespeople that really don't understand the product they are selling and installers that only do what they are told... ... . These are the same good people that installed by GearVendor at the same time and installed it incorrectly.

Lessons learned:

1. Do my own work

2. If I can't do it find a shop that has lots of referrals from satisfied customers long after the work was done.
