Recently I've noticed that my engine will stumble or miss after I've been driving steady for a while and come to a stop. When the idle kicks down from 1000 to 850, I can feel the miss, random but persistent. The tach drops with each miss. If I bring the idle up to 1000 for a few seconds then let it go back to 850, it's usually OK. I have a manual trans. A few things I noticed that I'm not sure are related: I found aluminum(?) shavings in my fuel filter cannister two weeks ago while changing the fuel filter. I had to do the 20 second prime four times to purge the air (before I only had to do it once or twice). When I checked my fuel pressure between the lift pump and filter cannister, it was zero. Fuel does dribble out, though. Seems pretty obvious that I have a bad lift pump, and I'll be happy if I replace it and my idle problem goes away. I'll be ticked-off if my high pressure pump is ruined because it wasn't getting enough lubrication or cooling and it is somehow damaged, causing my idle problem. Can anyone think of another reason why I might be having the miss at idle?
