I have and '03 w/64K. While coasting down hill with the cruise set the enging surges, most of the time about 100rpm. I have already had the ECM reprogramed, didnt help any. Any suggestions?
Queston?? With the cruise set and going down hill, are you maintaining your speed as set or are you picking up speed beyond what was set? I only ask because if you are not picking up speed but holding the set speed, then maybe what you are seeing is the cruise doing what it was asked too. It might be holding your speed as requested. The other question is does is surge going up hill or on the flats?? Also, are you an automatic or manual, moded or stock?? A little more info on the truck will help.
sorry, stock H. O. 6spd. , I mainly surges going down hill and going into the flats at the bottom of the hill, I havent noticed the speedo moving, but I can watch the tach move about 100 rpm. the surge is bad enough to throw your head back and forth
On my truck the cruise is via a vacuum style. I think yours is electronic. On mine I used an adjustable needle valve which slows the throttle respons. On yours I would not be sure, if it is electronic via the tach. There should be someone with knowledge on this.
My 03 6-speed does the same thing. It's done it since the day I drove it home from the dealer. It's not very violent but it's very noticable. It also surges like something crazy when it has to go into high idle under 30 degrees or so. And once in a great while it kills when I pop it out of gear and coast up to a stop sign. I have 36,000 miles on it.
Have you tried the fuel filter. Mine has done some strange surges lately - changed the fuel filter twice in the last 3 weeks and it fixed it both times.
I have noticed that mine also does the surge thing sometime more than others. It's something that I can't put my finger on as to what causes it . I'm open for suggestions other that the filter change. TIA
