hi, ever since it has been cold out, when i crank it up in the a. m. the engine surges for a cuople minutes. drives fine any one help me out on what to do,check? thanks carl

Thats how mine started to act when the VP was starting to go. It did this before I ever got a dead pedal. I could hear an audible "surge" but tac would stay the same. When it warmed up the sound went away.

Just a shot in the dark, hope this helps,

Would it be the grid heaters cycling? When they kick on it will drop a couple hundred rpm's. That will last a few minutes or untill you drive off.

Randy

no, its not the heaters . i know when that is heating up, a drop in voltage, dimming of the headlamps. i was wonrering if the air intake sensor might be causing this?

Maybe what is happening is you have a weak battery. When the grid heater cycles... It is drawing alot of juice. Does the truck start easy or any signs of a weak bat? Possibly alternator not charging correctly?

Same here. Surging cold but got better after it warmed up. VP went shortly after this. Better check your codes and see what's going on.

Mike

probaly not the batterys they are 1 year old. i hope its not the inj. pump. seems like it only happens when it sits overnight or been in work 9 hrs.

CFowler, unfourtunately that is how mine would act after a long sit when cold. Like I advised above it was not long after the "surging" started that I started to get a dead pedal, then 0216 code, then a new VP. Have you checked your codes to see if there are any there?

Have you had any recent lift pump failures or any at all? What is your fuel pressure at idle/WOT?

J-

JCyrbok, thanks for the info. i have 10lbs fuel pressure @ w. o. t. and have not got any way real soon to check for codes, not yet. but it might be worth the ride to a buddies shop. i did have a dead pedal a few months ago & that turned out to be the transmission output sensor. thanks, carl
