Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Engine temp while towing

I was just wondering what you guys are seeing for temps while towing on flat ground as well as climbing a long grade.

Towing 10K lbs, 12' high, I see at the most 200 deg, thats running the hell out of it.



Crusing the PA turnpike at 65 I may see 195. running empty (or down hill) it never even hits the 180 that the new cummins thermostat opens at.

I have the Mag-Hytec DD trans pan and it never breaks 150, until I sit in a traffic jam, then it climbs up to about 195. Ohh yeah, that's towing an 8500# 5ver.

On the hottest day's here in Florida towing only 8500 lbs. my truck barely gets over the 200 degree mark. There are no real hills or long grades though,so all of my towing is basically flat ground. So far I am very pleased with the cooling capacity of this truck.

He was inquiring about the engine temp Not the transmission.



I don't tow... ... ... . but when I am drag racing and palying on the streets on the hot days it'll climb to 210 to 215° never seen it any higher then that .

Mine rarely ever goes above the white middle line, which is right at 200 degrees, while towing. When I tow in hilly country, it's the same story.

I was pulling an east coast mountain grade at seventy five, air temp near 100F with high humidity, engine at 195.

When towing our 13,500 lb 5ver, one needle width above 190 degF. When empty, one needle width below 190 degF.

Thanks for your answers, I was just inquiring about it to get someone else's opinion as I was told it would never go over 195 no matter what.

I pointed out that this was an engine temp thread and I end up answering it with my transmission temps too! Dang it LOL



Engine temp has never been more then 1 needle width past 190° it does that when I hold it above 80mph for a while.
