He had no mods and followed the maintance log to a tee. I suggeest that everyone has a look in side the pipeing between the air filter and the turbo take it all apart and look for dust, I did and found dust so in an attempt to aviod this problem I'm try a proguard 7 #2 system. This is the 2nd truck I have heard of this happening in Red Deer, AB alone. Another more info see -https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159679https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159679

You change that air cleaner and you dump your warantee Oo.

Toyota sludge motors had ther same history and the same out come.

Not so fast---

Toyota put out a VOLUNTARY recall and rebuild/replaced sludged motors PLUS extended the warranty to 100k mi. I had one done and was not the original owner either. The reason for the sludged motors was too tight tolerances for crappy oils.

There is no Warranty if you Dust your engine, EVEN using nothing but Mopar Parts changed at the recomemded service interval by Dodge mechanics. Thats what this post is about. I went to a Proguard 7 just so this dosen't happen to me like it has 2 people I know. I used to run my 05 just as the maintaince log required, when people started dusting there engines around here I had a look in my truck and found dust in my intake that some how managed to get past a totally stock air box and filter - They are NOT GOOD FOR THE INTENDED USE..... If your a city driver your fine I'm sure, but If you use the truck as a truck and drive offroad and on gravel lots - BEWARE.

Toyota did that after telling THOUSANDS to buzz off that is was a lack of manitance. They didn't jump up to the plate until they HAD to!

Am I missing something? Didn't the original post state that the truck had "only 108,000 miles"? Putting aside all the unfortunate episodes of DC not standing behind their product, wouldn't that be reason for DC not honoring a warranty... ... especially since there wouldn't be one after 100,000 miles?

Air Tight Case not Air Tight Box

HAD to... ... . who "made them"? More than I can say for ANY other manufacturer. In this situation it is a truck maintained by the dealer an is stock. I think he has a tighter lawsuit case than the factory air box

No flames ;) just adding to my post count :-laf

You mean Toyota and their sludge motors? They had public and a watch dog group come out of the wood work after them. Their beloved CAMBRY was one of the vehicles. Had a buddy with a new Highlander with 7500 mile changes at 25k go through this issue. You could not see the rocker arms on it. He was TOLD it was HIS fault even with oil chage recepits. He traded it at anothe Toyo dealer two weeks after MANY phone calls to Totota no help line on a v6 4 door Toyo truck. It uses a qt of oil every 1200 miles. Told NORMAL. He'll never buy another Toyota.

Volkswagen Passat turbocharged 4 cylinder engines have/had the same sludge problems. After the fact, I found out that in order to fit this engine longitudinally in the Passat (it is also in the Jetta, but transverse mounted), they had to fit it with a smaller oil pan.

VW sort-of acknowledged the problem by spec'ing a larger oil filter and 0W-40 synthetic motor oil. One dealer's service guy was very reluctant to admit any history of sludge problems with this car/engine combo, but would not deny it.

We found out too late. New turbo, cylinder head, camshafts, etc... out of warranty (too many miles- well over 100k,but I had wanted to run it to about double that.

The sludge was greatest at the oil pump pickup screen (the local VW expert who did the repairs showed me how the sludge had closed down the pickup, starving the pump)

How to prevent the problem? Regular changes with synthetic oil. Not a 100% sure fire fix, but greater possibility of preventing damage.

Good luck,

John

Like I said, I guess I was missing something. :D It was late when I posted that and I should've payed attention to the "km" after the 108,000.
