I severely overload my truck by pulling a trailer weight 15,500lbs thru mountainous territory.

The 2000 quad cab 2500 truck was pulling a steep grade, the last mile the engine temp gage went to 240F (gage pegged?) and the trans temp went to 220F.

The radiator did NOT boil over, the trans slipped twice each time the duration was less than 1 second, the tach jumped 500 rpm momentarily

Do you think any permanent damage was done to engine or trans

I am guessing that your heat issue was the result of trans overheat/slip pulling those grades and the inability of the radiator to disipate the heat adiquately under those conditions. I'd be more concerned with what happend in the trans than long term effect on the engine.

Neither the engine nor the trans temp will hurt it on an infrequent basis. If this is happening every day multiple times thats a different story.

The 500 rpm jump was likely the TC unlocking in response to some programming.

Yes, that is overloaded for the standard trans\gear condifuration in a 2000 CTD. Where you in Drive or OD?

Have you cleaned the radiator? If you haven't it could be full of junk from the crank case vent. Common problem with these trucks as they age. You won't be able to tell by looking. If you haven't done it, do it. I was amazed at the amount of crap that came out of mine 01 when it got hot with 3K # of rock in the back. Problem solved. Could be your truck wasn't overloaded as much as under cooled.
