Missing a Cylinder - Advice Needed

My '04. 5 CTD, 4WD w/ 6 speed & 4. 10 rear has 12. 5K miles on it. I've had the TSB 18-037-04 reflash of the PCM module done and I'm quite happy with the results. The engine has loosened up to the point where I'm getting 19 to 20 MPG over the road, bob-cat and 16 around town (that's hand calculated from every drop of fuel that's gone into the tank since it was new in June, '04.

My next step is to install a pyrometer and a boost gauge and I've got a pretty good idea of which ones and where to mount them.

I've been following the threads on TDR about the increased flow available from the after market air filters and the conversion to a 4" exhaust system. It would seem that the benefits from the changes far outweigh the cost involved. I'm looking for recommendations on doing this and also wondering about the effect of the changes on the PCM. Obviously the PCM is set up to recognize the stock airfilter and exhaust system. When the airflow to and through the CTD is increased, what is the effect on the PCM settings? Is the fuel injection afftected? If changes are needed, what black box is recommeded to make them?

Thanks guys. I have enjoyed being a watcher on the TDR and I'm hoping that there will be some good advice from all of you experienced oil burners.

What type of exhaust upgrade are you looking at?

The 2004. 5 and up already have 4 inch exhaust from the factory.

For the aircleaner, I found that the aircleaner box is the most restrictive part of the system. Even with a new air filter the filter minder would be drawn half way under load. I took a 3" hole saw and opened it up, then put a piece of screen over the hole.

I think that some people with an aftermarket intake and bigger free flow exhaust have experienced defueling by the computer because of the increase in boost. You can put a boost fooler on your truck like an EZ or several others out there do the same. Your right about the benifits of doing a free flow exhaust and intake. . lowered my overall temps by about 150-200 degrees on the high end. You'll notice a difference in throtle response to :)

Oh yeah. . welcome to the TDR :D:D:D

I get my new truck on friday. Gauges will go in as soon as the a pillar mount gets here. How much boost should I expect to see stock on my new 05? Also, where are you guys tapping in the boost line? is there still a port behind the fuel filter like the 2nd. gen? Or are you drilling & tapping the intake?

Consider a BHAF when considering air flow increases.
