Engine warm up time

How long is it taking for everyones truck to get up to temperature? This morning it was 40 degrees. I cycled the grid heaters, truck started up, and let it idle for about 30 seconds. I then drive about 3 miles of country roads, a few small hills, not driving over about 40 at any time to the highway. Once on the highway it takes about 9 miles of driving before the truck is up to operating temp. Is it normal for it to take 12 to 15 minutes for your truck to warm up in 40 degree weather. It always seems to take about the same amount of time, even last year when it was down around 20 degrees. My rig is an 04 305 / 555. It has the high idle feature, which shouldnt really matter in this case. I ve heard about a warm up TSB, but thought that was the high idle feature. My truck runs good, and constantly averages around 21 Mpg, so I really dont want to take any chances with a reflash.

Fbaurley your truck is normal. The burn is so complete and efficient that there is very little waste heat generated in our engines. Couple that with a huge capacity for coolant, and it takes forever to warm up. Your description is accurate compared to my 305/555. It does happen more quickly in warmer temps, however even at 80F it still takes a while to warm up. I drive the same way to work every day, and almost like clockwork, my temp gauge starts to move at one particular intersection. As the outside temps change, I like to watch where the temp gauge is in relation to that intersection. The other day it was 28 and my temp gauge didn't move till about a mile past that intersection.
