I have a 2002 6-spd with a 3. 54 rear. The truck has since new occasionally gotten stuck at 1600 rpm. I have now figured out how to make it happen all of the time. If I am going 70 mph (1900 rpm) and coast down to 60 (1600 rpm) with my foot off the throttle and clutch and go to accelerate again the engine will not respond and my boost gauge will not come off 0. If I down shift it still takes 2 seconds for the engine to build boost and start "taking off" again. Keep in mind this is with an "empty" (me, 200 lbs of tools, a 300 lb cap and a 250 lb bed slide system. I do have taller than stock tires 245/70R19. 5 and have corrected the speed signal. The truck has done the same thing with the stock tires. Either there is something wrong with my turbo, wastegate, or charge air piping or the calibration does not allow enough fuel at 1600 rpm with 0 boost to rebuild boost. Has anyone else had this happen. I have an extended warranty but do not want to give them $50 to say that nothing can be done.

sometimes it is your MAP sensor. If it doesn't read any boost, it will not fuel. Maybe get that checked out, but i am sure more people will help out here.

Also check for codes and make sure the 0216 isn't there. That is how mine started acting when the vp44 said seeeyaaa. Hopefully just a map sensor or something similar and cheap.

Codes

How do I get the codes? If it is throwing a code why doesn't the check engine light come on? I would think that they would be linked, wouldn't that make sense? I did run out of fuel once with it when the gauge stayed at 1/8 tank which was documented under warranty as the cause for running out of fuel. The fuel sending unit went bad. I actually hope that it is the pump, at least I would "use" the money that I spent on the extended warranty. The truck only has 57,000 on it.

Thanks

Oh ^&*%

I found out how to pull up the codes I have a 1693 "DTC detected in Companion Module or PCM/ECM" and a 0216 "fuel pump timing failure". Neither one sounds like it is good news. I also went back and calculated some my most current avg mpg and I am a good 2-3 mpg off from normal. I have not noticed any smoke. My egt's were running a little higher 50 to 100 F.:(

You can get your codes by cycling your key on and off 3 times and on the 3rd time leave you key in the engine on positin but dont start. The code will be on your odometer and will say p-ecm then code or done then p-ecu code or done then return to your milage. The same thing happened to me with my truck and it was the vp44. and it should be covered under your warrenty If you get a 1693 and 0216 it is the vp44 SORRY

On the way to the dealer

Well I am dropping it off at the dealer right in the next 1/2 hour. Hopefully they can get to it in the morning.

Thanks,

1693 code is a code to tell you, you have a code.

What a grand idea.

Sorry about the '44. It ill robably take about 6 business days. Most people I have had a '44 replaced had it take that long. Dodge isn't just handing '44's to Dealers anymore. They need questions answered.

When mine went out I had to take it to the dealer several times as Star would not authorize the replacement because they could not duplicate the problem. If they had taken it out on the road and did what I told them they sure could have as I could anytime I wanted too. But after they erased the codes 2 times and it came back again (all within a week) they gave in. And it did take several days to get a new one in for the replacement.

44 problems

I know I always have to argue with the dealers. I will bet big $ that I will get the can not duplicate and I will have to go there grab the service manager put him in the truck, drive the truck exactly as I described, and it will happen. The thing that I do not understand is why the check engine light does not come on? According to the literature it should.

VP44 to be changed out

Last week the dealer gave me back the truck with the codes erased and an extra 36 miles on the odometer, so at least they tried. When I got it back I tried like hell to make it mess up but it didn't. On my trip to VA and back it happened 3 times but the check engine light did not come on but the codes (1693 and 0216) were logged. I dropped it off at the dealer and asked if there was a data logger that I could have hooked up to catch the intermittant problem. They agreed to change the pump. So it has been in the shop for the week.
