engine wont shut down and makes a rattling noise

Sometimes when I start my truck I hear a whining and rattling noise from the engine. Also the engine will not shutdown. This has happend about 3 times. the engine so far has shut down after 20 or 30 seconds. This is on a 97 2500 4by4 with 66000 miles. Any ideas? Thank's

Do a search on 'starter solenoid'. This is a common problem and there was a thread in the last month.
