MY ENGINE WOULN'T SHUT DOWN WHEN I TURN THE KEY OFF !!! I HAD TO REMOVE THE AIR FILTER AND SMOTHER IT BEFORE IT WOULD SHUT DOWN. NOW I'M STUCK AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE HELP !!!!!

What year is your truck?

If it is a 12V there is a shutoff solenoid above the injection pump just pull it down and the engine should shut down.

You can remove the solenoid and will probably find a bunch of metal slivers stuck to it. This is your fuel pump coming apart, and the metal is holding the solenoid open. If you can get a wrench on the solenoid but it is really stuck bad, take a punch and hammer and smack the flats in direction of rotation , this will help free it up. Generally you can clean the metal off and it will shut down fine for a while. It may run a long time like this or may not.

Please explain how fuel pump slivers travel up the shut down linkage to the solenoid.

He probably just has fried contacts on the shutdown relay.

Bill, would the fact that he has a 93 with the rotary pump be how? I don't konw enough to comment further, but it's different from our 2nd. gens.

I reckon MOPARGUY answered for me, it would help if people would tell us what they are working on. Or post a signature. ;)

P. S. There is a manual shutdown lever on the side of the rotory pumps that you can hold over until the engine dies, rather than choke off the intake.
