Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) engine

Looking at 02 and engine does not have any paint left on it does that mean it has been overworked?

What area of the country is it in its not uncommon for the northern snowy states that put down lots of Corrosive ice melt chemicals that really eat the paint off of engine blocks. Engine blocks are normally not primed either so the paint doesn't stick as well. Normally if it had been overheated enough to cause paint to come off it would have developed other troubles if it even still ran.
