I'm a new owner of a 2001 Dodge diesel, bought in MAY. I pull a 5th wheel trailer which weights 12,000 lbs. I have just completed a 12,000 mile trip around the country averaging 12MPG and was very pleased since the truck is stock.

I want to improve preformance but don't know where to start. Thought I'd start with 4 inch exaust and jake brake. Later would like to increase Torque,

HP and MPG without destroying the drive line.

I would appreciate comments concerning these enhancements or others maybe more appropiate.

I used overdrive about 90% of the time on the trip

and cruised at about 2000 RPM at 60 MPH. Am I asking for trouble using O/D this way? There was very little shifting going on and know hunting since I controlled it with foot feed.

Get a edge ez. It can be unpluged if you need warrenty work. and it has good power for the buck. My mileage went up about 2 mpg all the way around.

Yes, check out the link in bob's reply before you add an exhaust brake. I would spend $$$ fortifying the transmission before anything else, then the brake, then an ez edge. Exhaust change won't give much/any hp, but it'll sound better (depending on your point of view).

Been reading here for couple of monthes, started with a full set of gauges (exh temp,turbo,eng/trans temp, gas pressure). I used Westech and like them.

Next lost the muffler with replacement pipe from Geno's--just testing of course :D .

I think EZ will be next addition with larger

injectors to follow.

Have started saving for the New Trans from Bill Konaloy (sp).

An PowerEdge EZ and 275 RV injectors are a great towing combo. A good set of gauges is a must if you are going to start BOMBing. With this combo, you get increased throttle response with a big load, the mileage should improve at least . 5 mpg and your EGT's should stay manageable. I pulled a 6% grade in very hot weather last August, never had to downshift out of fifth gear and saw max EGT's of 1050. I highly recommend this combo and it can be had for under a thousand bucks. Go for it, you won't be sorry.

RMoorman,

The DTT torque converter and valve body upgrade alone raised my fuel mileage by 1. 5 mpg. You can't even imagine the difference between it and stock.

I really appreciate the responses and realize I have a lot of homework to accompolish. I am extremely behind in diesel "lingo" and tech talk.

I'll continue to read postings and hope to pick up

enough so i can carry on some decent chatter with you pros.

Thanks,

Edge ez

SEmerson,

Can you recommend where I can obtain information

on the Edge ez. Where would you suggest buying the Edge ez?I'd like some tech info before buying the unit. Thanks
