Great bumper sticker

I was out taking the dogs for a walk today. Nice weather, beautiful day out.

My dog was attacked by a dog that wasnt on a leash.

I thought it was going to kill my dog. I had steel toe boots on and really hauled off at this dogs privates :--) :--) a BUNCH of times. Probibally a minutes worth. Thought I was going to break my foot on this dogs nuts.

Didnt even flinch.

The owner was walking over saying "stop kicking my dog". I told him "I will once you get your dog the *F* off my dog. "

The pace he was moving at was as if he was at a barbeque.

No apology, no "I'm sorry", nothing.

You wonder why dogs get sick for no reason and die.

;)

I called 911. What a waste of a call.

Luckily my dog doesnt seem to be hurt.

Has this happened to anyone?

Any advice other than poison in chopped meat or lead poisoning?

I have to cool off.

Eric

If I really felt my dog was going to be killed I would feel justified in pulling my knife out and stopping the attack. As his bog was not leashed, and yours was, I think it would be legal.

Too bad about some owners. . The steel toe should have been directed to some other nuts!

You could carry HALT with you on your walks. It will stop most dogs with no permanent harm. Most postal workers carry it with them.

Glad your pooch is O. K.

That would have been my choice, especially with steel toes.

About ten years ago, I started carrying pepper spray when I used to take my dogs on hikes. Not so much for loose dogs but their ignorant owners. One day I was walking with my boxer ***** who was pretty much all business when this lab pup bounded up the trail and walked right up to her as a pup would do. Owner shows up and I told him to lease his dog. "What's a pup going to do?" I said nothing but my dog may wring his neck and it would be your fault. Typically, he just would not get it.

Glad that I have enough land of my own to walk my dogs.

Anyway, I too am glad your dog is okay. I hate to say this but your kicks would have had more effect on the other end.

It is a small canister that is sprayed into the face. Works on people too--but wouldn't recommend it that way. Might not be strong enough on a person. Could just **** them off even worse. Try looking at hiking stores or ask your mailperson. They will tell you where to get it.

That really sucks. I had Rotts for many years, and a Pit Bull before that. They were always leashed and under control in public, but often other people's dogs would run up to us. The typical small dog owner was fond of saying "He thinks he's a big dog" as their dog charged at mine. He's not going to think that for long...

That's one of my pet peaves: people refusing to control their dogs...

A couple of ways to break up a fight:

-use the spray (liberally on the other person's dog)

-grab the aggressor by both back legs, pull and lift; this may not work on a dog that has a good grip

-grab said dog by the jewels, pull and lift...

-get a leash around said dog's neck and choke them off. Let 'em pass out if necessary.

I'd get the owner's information (license plate if you have to), and go the the police and file a report. Take your dog to the vet even if it seems unharmed and make them pay the bill. If you're breaking up a fight, you could get bit (wink wink), and you have not only a potential lawsuit, but can get their dog impounded, etc.

Get any witnesses to give you their contact info and ask them to give a statement in your favor.

Glad your dog's okay.

It's really not the dog's fault. It's not a dog problem, it's an owner problem. The owner is one who should not have dogs. People like that makes me sick!

I would not have a problem taking WHATEVER steps necessary to protect my pups. Even if it means killing the aggressive dog.

These right are ours under the law to protect life and property.

I used to have a sweet natured little mutt, half German Shepherd, half Spitz, but very loyal and gentle. Well I took him out one day and another dog twice his size jumped him right in front of my house. My poor dog wasn't even fighting, but the other dog had him by the neck. I jumped in and started bopping the other dog right on the nose. I bopped him about 5 times with my fist and he let go! By then his owner showed up--a cute but dumb girl. No harm--no foul.

Use something that will leave an impression on the dog and the owner if neccesary.

UDAP Magnum Bear Spray with Holster Item: QR-225959

Much cheaper than a trip to the vet to have your pal stitched up.

There wasnt any way I could have used any type of spray. I couldnt even see the other dogs head most of the time, it was buried so deep into my dogs belly, neck area.

The only thing I could get a clean shot at was his privates, so I did. :D

I even tried to grab it by the collar a few times, but there was too much scuffling going on and it didnt stay still long enough for me to get a good hold. I didnt think of what to do if I did get a good hold...

I went to the police dept (I actually called 911 while I was there. They called back to tell me there wasnt a dog catcher on duty on the weekend. ) but they said it was an animal problem, and the animal control officer would do the report.

I asked the cop if I could carry an expandable baton since being presued by dogs in my neighborhood is a regular occurance, he said no.

He said I could walk with a walking stick. I told him I have one that looks like a baseball bat. :p He said only do that if I have a mitt and ball. Evidently youre not allowed to defend yourself.

I usually have a knife or "something" that would be helpful in a situation like this in my pocket, but I emptied my pockets before the walk for a change. Trouble is, the local law tells me if I defend myself (or my dog) I would be the one in the wrong. WTF???

Suffice to say, if I had my knife with me, guess I'd be in trouble.

I suppose that would have made me both victim and bad guy.

The pup is doing fine.

Ya know that is total ******* ******** there you are out there being a good citizen by having you dog on a leash, your dog gets attacked and if you doing something to defend your self or you dog you wind up being the bad guy. I see "the Law" did not say anything about the a-hole out there with out his dog on a leash. They just ridicule you for asking questions and wanting to protect your self and your dog.

I would carry pepper spray or mace or the halt, and the next time my dog got attacked the other dog would wind up with a snoot full of spray. I usually carry pepper spray made by Fox. FOX LABS INTERNATIONAL™ PEPPER SPRAY

5. 3 Million Scoville Heat Units

Extremely powerful stuff.

Well I'm glade that your dog and you are OK.

This story strikes a cord We have huskies and if a small dog runs across the street and attacks my alpha dog, she will instantly put them down. She's done it a couple times. Nothing we could do either. She's a gentle dog around humans, but she won't take much from a small dog. People that say their dog thinks they are a big dog better be prepared to fight a big dog. Dogs do dog things. We keep our dogs fenced, and on leashes when we walk or run them. I wish others did too. It is very uncomfortable to see the neighbors that had the small dogs. I feel bad, but nothing we could do. The humane society stood behind us.

We used to own a German Shepard(male). Wife would take him on walks and would always carry a pole. Well one day while out walking the dog, this ole boys dogs came out hard and heavy at the wife and dog. One was a mutt and the other a Boxer. The Wife knocked one in the head and Samson had the other one, the ole boy came running out of the house, what the **** are you doing. Wife pulled on the leash, told Samson OFF!! At that instant the dog got loose and high tailed it into the yard. Wife told the guy, keep your gate closed. Guy was ranting about my dog fighting his. And my dog is on a leash:-laf

Few years ago we had an older female Bichon, Aspen (20 pounds). It was winter and she was out playing with our 2 year old (at the time) black lab/chow/husky mix Dakota (50 pounds). They got along great.

Well, the neighbors mutt Tess (short for Tesla, like the band) was about 45 pounds, all muscle female. She really liked Dakota and usually played great.

I was inside on the computer in the loft and saw them playing, all three of them. I looked up again and Aspen wasn't around. I heard barking and whining so I ran outside. She was laying on the snow covered frozen pond, all torn up with her insides on the outside. Either Aspen had rubbed Tess the wrong way or Tess got jealous and got her.

She was barely breathing by the time we got her to the vet. Vet said if we did surgery and she survived, there was a 50% chance that infection would get her due to the intestinal damage. We decided to put her down.

The neighbor (redneck-hick-druggie type) apologized and said he would pay us back all the medical bills and would take care of his dog. Guess he did, I never saw Tess again.

He has since been evicted and gone. I can't say I blame him or the dog, since the 3 dogs usually played nice together. Tess probably got too aggressive and went crazy. Who knows!

I still miss Aspen.

That's one of the reasons I almost never take my dogs out, they are pretty aggressive when together and all they need is someone's loose dog to run up to them and all hell will break loose. Our back yard is fenced so they have a pretty good area to run around in. Neighbors dogs come up to the fence all the time, and it's 50 feet back from the sidewalk. I have had words with several of them as there is a leash law. Once one of them was on my lawn by my front door, I had just had a new walk and lawn put in, the owner and I had words, they no longer walk in front of my house off leash. But as soon as they get past they unclip thier dogs. People that let thier dogs run and then say things like "oh he's friendly" are surpised when I say yeah well my dogs arent and if they get a hold of your's you wont be happy. Keep in mind this is on my property. We used to be at a marina where people would always let thier dogs run down the floats ahead of them, my dogs would be sitting in the cockpit, they will not leave the boat if I am on it, usually the other dogs would just come up to the boat, but once one jumped on our boat, it was pretty hard to hold the dogs back till they owner showed up. Poeple just don't respect other poeple's space and do what they want, you can be sure if something bad happens to thier dog they would be the first one crying foul. Not too long ago around here an off duty policeman shot and killed a dog in a park, the dog was some type of chow mix, he said the dog ran up to him and his kids and made aggressive moves. I can't blame the guy, but I wonder if a normal citizen would have gotten away with it.

I can assure you I'd make the news if I did something like that here.

Unfortunatly/fortunatly I emptied the pockets before this walk or I might be famous now.

On the other hand,if things went down differently I'd have my computer on a cable connection finally... ... .

I think "Soviet Monica" is another bastion of Liberalism/Communism. Dogs run off-leash all the time, owners couldn't care less. Cops are too busy chasing Hispanic Gang Members to pay much attention to Dog laws unless the offending dog poops on a Cops shoe.
