Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Enjoying the #4

Just wanted to let the group know that I did get that #4 plate installed (BIG BIG thanks to MDW) and am enjoying every minute of it. So far the stock clutch holds, even towing 8-10k so I couldn't be happier.



This old truck scoots along quite nicely now and I'm not having EGT issues. I have to work real hard to get 1250 to 1300, much harder than I'll drive with any regularity.



To anyone sitting on the fence about installing a torque plate I'll cast my vote for 'do it'!

Mikel, glad to hear the plate is working well. I am still trying to decide what plate to run. I want the GSK to work well with whatever I choose. And I am not opposed to a trans. upgrade at the same time. Tell me, what kind of power increase do you think you got with the plate? I posted a question two weeks ago here about the H. P. rating of the #4 and never got a real answer. I have e-mailed TST in the past and got the run-around from them, THE MANUFACTURER of the plates to begin with.

It's funny you should ask about the GSK, that's going to be my next engine mod. At most I'd think I would have to adjust the governor lever like Piers shows here .



The amount of power that the plate adds was impressive, probably at least 100hp rear wheel. The rear tires will break loose in third and forth if the streets are even slightly wet.



If you're going to do trans upgrades at the same time I'd say get the #4, I believe most of the vendors will exchange it for 30 days for another plate if you don't like it so there's really nothing to loose.



If you're not going to do trans work at the same time I'd have to say that the #4 is definitely not the plate you want. I can't imagine how a stock auto would live behind this thing, heck I'm impressed that my stock clutch is holding. I think that I slipped the stock clutch on the '01 ETH that I had with less power than what this truck has now.

P. S. On that Texas thing, I'm not so sure that Texas only scares those who live here. It sure seems like we make California and several other west coast states kinda nervous...

The #4 works well in a 215hp pump too. The definition of EGT :--)
