Archived Entire '06 Fuel System Ruined?

I have a 06 2500 6 speed 4x4 w/11,000 miles that started idling ruff last week, blowing smoke this week, now is at the dealership. I am told that there is water and bacteria in the fuel system. At first they flushed the whole system and pulled the tank, $450. 00. When that didn't fix the problem, they said (without exaggeration) the entire fuel system was shot, from injectors, to the rail, to the pump. I am now looking a bill of around $5,000 to 6,500. Dodge will not cover it.

I have talked to trusted friends that are service writers in both Corvalis and Portland Oregon. They have told me that this is a known problem. The Cummings fuel system attracts water over short periods of time, contaminatiing the fuel. This, in conjuction with the smallest injector "holes" ever put in the cummins engine, combines to raise hell with the fuel system. The fuel filter does nothing to help. This is apparently common, '06 owners beware!

What I am looking for is: 1. If anyone can tell me if my info is correct.

2. If you have had this problem and it was covered by dodge, how did you do it? 3. I need phone numbers and e mail addresses of anyone at dodge, cummins, or anyone else that can help. Did you finance the truck if so let them keep it or don't pick it up leave it at the dealers as a protest ( yes I know that you will need the truck) it will get resolved much sooner. Mine came with 3 PROBLEMS FROM THE FACTORY.



1. STEERING WAY OUT OF SPEC,$5000. 00

2. ENGINE GUTLESS WONDER 175 RWHP COST OVER $10,000 TO DATE.

3. ENGINE BURNING COOLANT IN THE FIRST 20,000 KM'S (53 BLOCK)



They are NOT honest, and have no conscious!!!

Sounds like it's possibly a bad injector and they have no clue. Time to raise bloody hell. The Duramax has been out since 2001 and uses basically the same exact fuel system. You almost never hear about contaminated fuel issues. I think the dealership does not know what they are doing.



One big difference between GM and D/C is warranty. I my years of owning GM and GM diesels and the two years of Dodge, GM blows Dodge away in warranty satisfaction.

There are other threads on here regarding bad fuel. Water in the fuel is not because of the fuel system. Is there a chance that you got a bad batch of fuel somewhere? Did you buy at a station with a low turnover rate? That's usually where the bad fuel comes from. Crap can grow in the the holding tanks. If you still have fuel receipts, save them. You might have to prove that the bad fuel came from a specific station and fight with them to cover the bill. :{ It's a long shot, but possible. Also, if water got into the injection system, I'd be asking just how well the "water in fuel" and the "water seperater" in the the fuel filter works. Good luck and welcome to TDR. Try search. A few guys have also had major issues. Dodge refused coverage. Thier car insurance paid the bill. Might also want to take a fuel sample for lab testing.

There is a customer satisfaction repair to the fuel system to keep water from entering the tank. If the problem is yours then why did they come out with a fix for their tank?



Roll-over vent



These dealers and Chrysler are ruthless, they blame the owner when they know the problem is theirs. The tanks have been the same since 2003 but this fix only applies to 06 trucks that way they don't have to go back and fix the other trucks that they have already voided warranties on. Climb under your truck and see if the hoses are on the front of your tank, if not I would copy this thing and get a lawyer and make them pay to fix your truck including reimbursment for money already paid. Dodge has admitted a problem, if they haven't fixed yours you have all the ammo you need to fight them and for them to make it right.

Demand a fuel sample! Get it tested. The fuel filter/water in fuel light should have worked. Many posts about the SAME THING over and over and its at owners exspence. There is a under lying issue that the FACTORY is missing.

You might want to check at the last station or two before the rough idle started. It only takes one crappy tank to mess things up. Maybe ask the attendant how things are going for everyone else who gets diesel there. They might slip up and say something. Or not. But it's a start. Again, good luck!

with only 11,000 miles call chrysler and talk to them they will cover it. it happens all the time at my dealership. with alot of stuff.

I think i remember someone else having the same situation and his solution was his auto insurance paid because they claimed vandalism, i. e. someone put water in the tank. I believe the dealership said there was more water than one would get even with a bad tank of fuel. Good luck to you. JR

Might be worth making the rounds to the stations you used just prior to the start of the rough idling. Buy a gallon at each station and label it for that station. Then take a sample from each and have it tested. Then you know without the addendant's "help" which station was the culprit.



I keep all my reciepts and buy from a couple of reputable stations.

Well I'm going through the "contaminated fuel" issue right now. I printed the Roll over Valve service bulletin and It was done on my truck (at least it was supposed to be completed). I've got it in my file. Dealer is replacing my tank and all fuel system components. Insurance will pay for it. There is something rotten here. I can smell it!

Tank will be replaced. I will take the old one home and do a study on the roll over valve issue.

Does the old tank have the hoses on the vents / roll-over valves? If not, it would tick me off to have the insurance carrier pay for it when Dodge has already admitted fault.

I can't believe this. On the farm we have used fuel for years on many diffferent tractors and trucks. Stored in tanks that keep fuel over the winter etc. Never ever had a problem.



We all know of the algae prob but I have never seen it.



We do filter the fuel at the time of filling. Also I cant figure out why the engine filter system did not pick up on the issue.



I would guess this is not the problem. But whatever it is will be masked by the complete system replacement.



Seems like in the world today people can't diagnose problems, so just replace until the problem gets tired and leaves.

I just got over a quart of water from ONE flying J... it can happen. It happened so fast, I couldn't believe it... I drained most of the water right there on the spot, then about every ten miles for the next 150 miles...
