I purchased the Enviroguard and reviewed the instructions and decided to start with the most difficult task first (removing the frost plug). Wow, this is mission impossible. Has anyone accomplished this magic act , if so please any insight on removing the plug would be greatly appreciated. There's no lip on the plug to pry on, and is there a risk of pushing the plug into the pan ?

A month ago I tried all the tricks to get that plug up and out. Tried threading a 8mm bolt into it, drilling a hole in it so another screw could get purchase and pull out... that's when I was pushing down on the plug and with little effort on my part the plug went down into the oil pan. I drained the oil immediately and fished my finger around the inside and used a long piece of saftey wire to try to fish it out... no luck. I talked to a couple guys down at the local Cummins shop and they all said (plus a couple guys on this site) not to worry about it. It's not going to get sucked up by the oil pickup tube and I'll just keep looking for it during upcoming oil changes. If I had to do it all over again, rather than spend close to two days trying to get that plug out the top I would just push it down into the pan. That's just me though.

P. S. I think there are different plug types depending on year/where made. Mine had no lip or locktite, was very small and slipped into the pan very easy.

I installed mine when I rebuilt the steering pump so I had easier access. I had little trouble getting the plug out. I just drilled a tech screw into it and then grabbed that with a set of vises grips and pulled it straight out.

Can't tell you myself firsthand but the local Cummins shop showed me a couple different types that are used. All of them were pot metal type stuff (may not be magnetic) and just a small cup shaped plug... not solid. Some had a lip that protruded around the top of the hole... mine didn't have any lip and little to no locktite material.
