No More PowerStroke

Ford Price Level Codes

Hey guys, I hear that in Indiana, the EPA is busting some diesel shops. From what I hear it happens 2 ways...

1) An undercover pulls into the shop with a 12v, and says... " I've got xxxxxx miles on this, what can I do to increase the power? If the man behind the counter says something about removing the cataylist converter, then they get a fine not over $16,000.

2) A state trooper pulls someone over leaving a Diesel Event for "smoking" and gets into a conversation with the guy. If the driver says something about not haveing a "legal" exhaust system, then they get a $8,000 fine, OR "tell me where you got the work done?"

Just passing along the hear-say.

Tex, I have heard that as well. It seems we as a group (CTD Owners) have been noticed by the almighty government. My contact in the midwest had very nearly the same story as you have posted. This IS happening, but all over not just Indiana. Beware for the EPA agent in a neighborhood near you.

Makes me glad I am still compliant, even CARB on mine, WHEW!!!!

No matter what you do to your exhaust,, unless it is to many Db's loud.

The exhaust is legal,, if someone questions about a muffler or catalyst,,

24V's don't have cat's,, and the turbo is considered a muffling device by the state of California.

my poor misunderstood Merrick....

That might be, but if it comes with a cat, like ALL 12v's did, then it HAS to have one. This is where it is illegal from my understanding.

No matter what it sucks.

Andrew

Not ALL 12v's had cats. 1989-early 1994 had no cats. Doesn't anyone make a straight pipe that looks like a cat? Story sounds kind of like an urban legend.

I heard the same story last night and was gonna check up on it before I post a story. With this sounding excatly like the story i heard, I'm gonna run with it. Makes me glad my 24 valve can suport a box with the crucial "off" button.

Think what you want to guys....

Think it's an urban legend if you want, but 3 guys, in different parts of the country ALL heard it, and it sounds the same each time. THIS IS FOR REAL GUYS! An $8,000 fine is serious business.

Andrew

You've probly seen this but...

Here it is again,,

I bet the EPA doesn't like me roaming around much.

It is wierd how the general knowledge people have is that if they SEE pollution that must automaticly mean it's bad. What would happen if I was running around with a 410HP 502CI big block gasser and you couldn't see any emmissions,, the general public, and EPA wouldn't be mad. OHHH, but Diesels with their smokey exhausts are BADDD,, Just look at all that SMOKE,, OHH,, You are polluting the WHOLE world, and everybody hates it/you,, AND, Your truck is slow,, and did they mention "Stinky"? and sooo noisy,, ohh the noise.

Some people will never get Diesels.

opinion starts here

Smoke is better than gassers, because the smoke drifts back down into the ground where it lays there as a carbon, and doesn't stay airborne,, get into peoples lungs, or deplete O-Zone,, whatever.

A gasser pollutants stays airborne,, naturally,, that's not good.

opinion stops here

Anybody else have anything to say about my opinions I have formed about the general consensus about Diesels ??

EPA

I have heard the same thing at the local diesel shop. It supposedly is happening in Indiana, we'll see. We don't even have emission testing!

Question?

Does anyone know if the '92 trucks had cat convertors on them? I bought mine with a straight pipe and replaced it with a bigger straight pipe. Just curiouse as I am located in the Hoosier state (by Hoosier I sure don't mean IU basketball). Thank.
