Epson Stylus PHOTO printers

Does anybody have either an intro model (the 820 - only $99) or the 890 (299) 960 (349) 1280 (499) or the 2200 (699). I'm trying to decide if I want to start printing photos at home - I need real life experiences. I went to a pro photo shop in Portland - and man do these printers - even at tee $99 range do a fantastic job... ...

I am looking for one too. Right now I am thinking about the Olympus P400. Any advise one this one or any other.

I've got an 875 DCS. Bought it factory reman @ Circuit City about 1 year ago. I've had good luck with it. Best to turn it on every day whether or not use is planned- nozzles clog otherwise.

I've got the 820 from Wally-World. For the money spent I was very impressed with the print quality. You have to use the glossy paper to get good prints, but that holds true with any printer. Another thing to look at is price of supplies. The color ink is about $20. 00 and the black is about $25. 00





I use mine to print pictures of our new son. We have a digital camera (again from wally-world) to take pictures with and the epson printer to print them out.



All in all I have been extremely impressed with this printer and have recommended it to my mother who has also been very impressed with it. We have had it about 7 months now and if it broke today I'd go buy another one tonight.

I have an Epson, I got it years ago for cheap and I'm floored by the quality - especially considering they're < $150!

What kind of printer is the Epson? Ink jet, laser, or dye sublimation. I seen pictures come from all three and the dye sublimation is by far the best. Does the Epson need to be conected to a PC, or can it work by itself?



I am new to this and very confused with so many choices. Thanks

As far as I know the Epson 820 is an ink jet. The paper that came with it said "photo-quality" for use with Ink-Jet printers. The one I got won't work by itself, it needs a PC. If I recall correctly though one of the better ones that they had at the store would take a memory stick from a camera and print pictures without a computer.

870

I have the 870, which is the predesessor to the 890. It is great. It is an inkjet and uses 6 color ink. I use a Nikon 990, and can take a 10meg single pic if necessary. With this combination I can print 8X10 on photo stock and you cannot tell the dif from 35mm film with the naked eye. The ink will last about 25 - 50 8-1/2 x 11 sheets and costs about $20. 00 to renew. It was the best rated "cheap" printer when it came out and still works great.



This technology changes so fast, I recommend buying several mags and reading about the latest. Buy the latest and at least it will last a little while before being obsolete.



One of the main issues is the ink fading on the picture. It is supposed to be better now. I have photos unframed in a diesel shop that have faded bad in 1 year. Stored in the dark, ok. Glass over them and ok also.

Thanks guys. After looking around and talking to people I am getting the P400. It has 6 million different colors and is pixel free. The photo paper is kept in a dust free container. It puts the colors on in three stages then dries it. Then it puts a "film" over that. It uses a wide ribbon instead of ink cartriges. The ribbon will print 50 full size pages and cost about $50 per ribbon. It can be used with a PC or all by itself



I will let you know how well, or how bad it works.
