Equalizer hitch with pintle hook?

Does anyone know of an equalizing type hitch with a pintle hook?

I have a truck at work that has a large rear overhang and the tongue weight lightens the front wheels. Our whole fleet has pintle hooks.

I have never heard or seen of an equalizer hitch for a pintel hook. One of my trailers (miltary generator trailer) has a pintel hook. There is no provision for an equalizer hitch, but I see no reason something could not be adapter. :) Sorry I could not be much help.
 
The pintle gives you a lot of latitude when you get into rough situations. I suppose something could be rigged but it would defeat the purpose of the pintle.



You could maybe go with one of those setups that transfers the weight to the rear axle. I forget who makes them at the moment. It has a half circle frame that the reciever rides on. The reciever would be pinned close to the axle and the hookup with the trailer is fixed. Are you following me here? They are not cheap either.

Pintle hook is designed as a weight bearing hitch. (load force down). Equilizer will place force up against the latch. Don't think it will work or be safe. Besides the ride bad from slack action.

That explaines why you don't use load distribution, but does anyone know why pintle hook setups don't need them? With a heavy conventional hitch you'd be in trouble without a sway bar and load-dist setup. How come you can get away with it using a pintle hook?

The problem I have is: I work for a large public utility and all of their trailer large and small use pintle eyes. This trailer really is a Wells Cargo enclosed car hauler modified for another purpose.

the weight is just under 8000 lbs. The truck that is supposed to tow it is a 95 GMC 3500HD. (The one with a straight axle in front. )

with a utility body. When we hook up the trailer the front end gets so light that the front brakes lock up on damp roads. The tongue weight of the trailer is 743 lbs. The wheel base of the truck is 135 inches. Just too much rear weight on the truck and I was hoping for an easy answer. Thanx again TGBOL
 
To much weight to far back of the rear axle on the 3500. This gives the 'light' front. Only way to cure this problem is to cut off about 30" from the rear of the truck (just joking) or go to 2 5/15 ball hitch with an equilize system.

I thought that part of the problem was the length of overhang, but it is the same as my ram. The department doesn't want to go to the ball hitch because they couldn't tow it with any other truck. The user has a serious case of crainial-rectumitis about all of the junk in the truck and trailer.

743 # is not much weight on hitch. I would look in his truck I bet all the heavy stuff is loaded on the tail end. I have been at that on my 2500 with no problems whatsoever.

I said that the tonque weight was 743lbs because that is what I was told. Weighed it myself 987lbs. Eric I agree the truck still should handle it. The people I work with are always overloading a truck. I get brake complaints and weigh the trucks and find any where from 1000 to 6000 overweight. Once had a 15000 delivery van that weighed 21000. It had steel plates in it.
