My son has a 93 F-150, 351 engine with the OD transmission. Of late, when it is first driven at moderate throttle, it slams into the gears very harsh, any ideas?? bg

Yeah, trade it in on a RAM! Sorry, couldn't resist... ..... You might try a search of the newsgroup alt. autos. ford at www.deja.com This might be something they have come across in the past. Otherwise, just the usual suspects: fluid level, fluid change, band adjustment, TPS, etc.

for what it is worth a neighbor has a F-350 Gasser that will give you whiplash going from park to reverse or park to drive. My brother has a 1995 F-350 PSD and it does the same thing. The Phord rep says " it's normal operation ". It sounds like a wrecking ball hits you, perhaps that should be the fix *grin*

Sounds to me as if it is in overdrive all of the time. On GM's you tested this by unplugging the wire to the OD where it attached to the transmission.
