Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Erratic 2-3 upshift

Not sure what to check first. When accelerating at an easygoing rate (slowly), my trans will hunt between 2 and 3 several times very quickly and then finally holds in 3rd. 1-2 and 3-4 shift appear to be fine. Does not appear to happen when accelerating at a more stout rate.



Is this symptomatic of the APPS issue? Or batteries or ground connections? The batteries are original (6 yrs old), could they be related somehow?

Mine did that when the governor solenoid went out. Also started giving me 2nd gear starts.
