Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Erratic Engine Temp

Everytime I start my engine and bring it up to temp it always goes over 190 before setteling down below 190. This is my fourth TD truck and this is the first to do it. Also it likes to run above 190 when pulling a 10000 lb RV in any kind of weather. My 24v 98 pulling the same trailer never did this. Is this normal for a 2001. 5?

My 2000 alway did this, sounds normal for your truck. Unless it runs high all of the time you don't have a problem. You could alway replace the T-stat with a 180.



My 2002 will go to 190 and then drop below that and stay a little below 190. You need to just make sure it is consistent.

My 2002 does the same thing in winter or summer. Towing about 8500 lbs. it is about a needle mark warmer. Thomas
