2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Erratic fuel gauge question

I have begun to notice a problem with my fuel gauge. I have 48000 miles on my truck. If I fill the tank and drive about fifty miles, I notice the gauge slowly drop to about 1/2 tank. I can turn the truck off and back on and the gauge will read full like it should. Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm thinking a fuel tank sender problem.

This is normal with these trucks. I replaced one and then did a forum search to find ways to fix sender. Did the repair to the one removed and will install when this one quits.

my fuel gauge has completely quit. did you have to replace the sending unit and if so what is the approx. cost?

this is very common... if you do a search for "fuel guage" you will find plenty of information..... i know i have the same problem and have resorted to just checking the mileage for now

Wow. I didn't know so many folks were having this problem!!!

This is only the second time it has done it. I have had no problems with the gauge up until now. I will have owned the truck four years this November and I have 48,000 miles on it.

its is 1 of the flukes with our trucks
