I have a 95 2500 with 310,150 miles original trans never a prob other than the t/c unlocking a handfull of times in 10 yrs intermitent problem with the shift from 2rd to 3th and the throttle is binding but if I push through it will immediately bang the shift and I mean bang like a shift kit which I don't have. This used to happen only once in while now more frequently occurs but only after running a while nice & hot , had new tps last yr and tbs on the cable all looks good but the binding effect has me baffled, I looked for a really long time on the site searching and so forth and didn't find my specific prob. I am a new member and I think what you all have got in this site is  hoping to hear from some of you more mech inclined than myself, I familiar w/some of this stuff but not all thanks

Well the binding sounds like a TV cable is binding or the spring has broken. It almost sounds like the TV is staying at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) so it shifts very very hard. Although... . it would also make it shift at a higher RPM. When the trans shifts from 2nd to 3rd it releases the front band and applies the front clutch. I would check your band adjustment. If your front clutch is applying to early, before the front band lets go... that can bind... and can do some serious damage if it's not taken care of.

Hope that leads you in the right direction.

Thanks Josh your reply has pointed me in a new direction, never thought of tv cable I just had my bands adjusted 4mos ago and every thing else seems fine. Ran it this morning not a prob is the tv the one that goes to the trans ? Where is the spring ? The only one I see is the one thats on the tps? The big round one where the throttle cable hooks up? Will check it out after the snow of the month subsides

There is a spring from the throttle lever on the trans. I had one break and fall off so the trans acted goofy for a while. That should not affect the throttle binding. There was a safety recall on the throttle linkage. Has that been done to your truck?

Joe, I don,t know if I had the linkage tsb done but the cable was replaced thanks for the info on the spring location , now thats down by the trans? or up next to the inj pump? I have also noticed that alot of you folks have your truck info under where you reply how does this work? Thanks alot

That spring is between the throttle lever on the trans and a bracket on the bell houseing. If the spring breaks or falls off the throttle pedal is usually too light. In fact, it may not pull back to the idle stop. The linkage thing is NOT a TSB, it's a safety recall. That's means that it's free and must be done. The original linkage would get rusty and bind. The throttle cable would also fray where it pulls back into the houseing near the injection pump. Something may be binding at the throttle end of the TV cable. It goes near the back of the main trans case and makes a U turn so that it pulls to the rear. Check for problems in that area. The clip that holds it in the bracket may be broken or missing. The bracket may be loose. You should have a helper in the truck push on the fuel pedal so you can watch what is going on with the throttle lever on the trans and cable back there when the pedal is pushed.

You can find out about which recalls for your truck have been done with your VIN at the Dodge dealer. There is also a web site for that but I don't have the URL for it.
