sorry if this is a repost new to the site. .

i have a 2004. 5 dodge 2500 4x4 auto. with a little over 80k on. . truck was bone stock 2,000 miles ago... all mods new and the trans did this stock also. .

first the trans would like to hang at redline to long from 1st to 2nd at WOT and do Erratic Shifting at 15 to 25 mph driving slow... if i take off a little fast it is fine... so i put a trango shift kit in with a over size pan and it fixed the 1st to 2nd hang up but not the Erratic Shifting. . and now due to the shift kit the Erratic Shifting is ******* me off... what can i do to fix it. .

thanks, chris

I had a similar problem with my '05. There is a TSB for '05s that addressed this:

"48RE Transmission - 1-2 shift hunt at light throttle.

The customer may experience a 1-2 shift transmission hunt during light throttle application. This condition may be due to a governor pressure solenoid valve. This bulletin involves the replacement of the governor pressure solenoid valve in the transmission valve body. "

Quick fix and fairly cheap.

I see a few others are having the same problem. Doing it since it was new, dealers couldn't figure it out or didn't want to. Now I know more about whats going on. Forum kicks butt.

I have had my 2004 into the dealer 3 times. The first was for the shifting at slow speed. Now after 2 sol. and a new valve body and 2 more trips to the dealer the transmison needs more help than ever. help!!!!!!

is where a way to test the governor pressure solenoid valve, and not go in to the trans and just replace it... . how do you adjust the TV pressure cable... and the shift kit and belt adjustment was all done at a shop... its there test i can do to pin point the problem?

I found out that it's only covered under the 36k warranty. How gay is that. After all it is part of the dang transmission is it not.

Not that I am aware of for the gov solenoid or transducer malfunctioning. You can run voltage tests and such on them but it doesn't tell if the screen is plugged or it just is not working.

The solenoid and transducer cna be replaced by just dropping the pan.

The TV cable is adjusted where it hooks to the APPS. It is the other cable where your throttle cable hooks up, either the front of the motor or under the driver side battery. There is a snap lock right back of the mount that is a tab the locks the housing in place. You set it by holding the throttle WOT and adjusting the amount of housing movement. Genearally about 1/8" from limit is a good place to start. If it is not adjusted correctly the governor pressure rise is not enough to keep the shuttle shift from happening.

Good luck.

thanks i will try that this weekend...

I also have problems with the 1-2-1-2-3-2-3-hangup skip 3rd to 4th. Had the transmission rebuilt at 40k worked great for less than 50 miles and then back to the same hassle. Truck is stock and a light duty tower. I am hoping this is the fix to my transmission woes. Truck has extended warranty. But dealer is never able to find the problem when I bring it in, until it was to the point where the 3rd gear clutch plate was burnt up and the transmission required an overhaul. Anybody have any pointers as to keywords to drop with the dealer or tech to help them solve this issue? I am also looking at the PCM replacement TSB 18-006-04 REV. B as well. I am just afraid that the problem wont be noticed until another 40k has passed and the trans is burnt up again, but on my dollar this time.

what does the tsb18-006-04 rev. b do for the trans.

I had a similar problem with my '05. Had the solenoid and transducer replaced, bands adjusted and new fluid of course ($350)... problem solved.
