Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) error codes

what is the key sequence to check the codes on our engines

and what was that website that explains them

key sequence is on-off-on-off-on. Odometer display will flash and show codes. Not sure if the '98 models have that feature or not.

FF1381, your model won't display codes in the odometer window - mine won't either - this feature came about later in the '99 model year. You will have to use some kind of scanner - there have been reports that AutoZone will scan for free in some areas.



Oh, by the way - if you're gonna live in Texas - you better get those stacks on

Guys, I have a 2000 and of course it reads the codes digitally in the odometer area by cycling the key. My dad has a 95 Neon with an analog odometer, which he was having some trouble out of. I told him to cycle his key on-off-on-off-on and see if it would do like my '88 Suburban (with code scanner).



It worked! His "check engine" light flashed out the codes. So instead of it just digitally telling you what the codes are, it will flash them. For example, "Flash, flash, ... flash, flash, flash" would be a 23 code.



Try it, see if it works.

JyRO, I have tried it, and researched this issue, and it simply was not made operational until later in the '99 model year - so I know it will not work on his earlier model truck.



FF1381 - I bought the parts for the stacks at www.airflo.com and did the work myself. Parts were about $650.

That's funny if it works on a '95 Plymouth Neon and not on a '98 Ram. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but if Dodge didn't employ that system on a '98 Ram, I'd be very, scratch that, somewhat surprised. D/C has done some strange things. FF1381, I'd try it anyway. Let us know what comes of it, if anything.
