As I am typing this, weatherman is reporting the high in Redding today was 116, yesterday they were at 113, hard to imagine that kind of heat so close to Lake Shasta

Not to ruin your misery stories, but it's sunset, the alfalfa is being watered by the wheel lines, there's a cool breeze and it's 63 degrees.

106* yesterday... in the afternoon a big thunder storm blew in and dropped a bunch O water and Lightening... 4 good fires started in the area ... all under control so far... then got real muggy

Hottest in US

Gary, as of today we've only had 10 days over 100 degrees in July. That's not a record by any means for here. I don't know what our worst July was but in July 1958 we had an average of 99 degrees for the month and something like 18 days over 100. In July 1906 Kennewick recorded 19 days over 100 degrees with 111 being the hottest. The climate here is almost identical to Sacramento (within 1-2 degrees) in terms of averages and record temperatures during the summer months.





As of the moment Hanford is the hottest place in the united states, mainly due to a major cooldown in the desert SW. Hanford is about 20 miles northwest from here.
