I would like to know also if someone has done it.

It's either this or a remote starter and an E-brake to keep the truck warm.

I entered "espar heaters" on Google and found a couple of dealers. One of 'em was in Denver. They'll send you a brochure and said they would supply user names if I wanted 'em.

You're looking at $1000-$1500 not including installation. I like the concept of Espar heaters (warm oil, toasty cabs, etc. ) but couldn't find anybody outside of Alaska or maybe northern Canada that even heard of 'em.

Folks here in Colorado, even at -20 or -30 F. , say you don't need 'em. I got through last winter using only the plug-in, but it never got much below zero where I live.

there is a guy from over on the dieselpage forums [gm's] who is an amsoil dealer and he also carries the espar units... iirc, his website is http://www.lubespecialist.com . i am in no way affiliated with him, just adding another sourse to find the product [and there have been no complaints about his service as far as i can remember from the dieselpage forums]

Nickelon... . that's greg landuyt's site, good guy. he also sells amsoil to anyone at dealer prices, which is nice, to avoid amsoils BS MLM system. .

I like the espar idea if you are nowhere near power, however a zerostart coolant heater would be very easy to install, and also much cheaper. You can do the whole thing for $100 or a bit less, and have a 750 watt thermostatically controlled recirculating coolant heater... Several use them on TDI's and they work great. Set them on a timer or plug in all night... it circulates the coolant through the system and maintains a nice temp. Instant heat!
