I've seen Webasto and Espar engine heaters and was wondering if anyone here has used any LP fueled engine preheaters. I had seen one advertised a few years ago. A friend has a old Webasto and is having some problems with it. He figured that the LP would be cleaner running requiring less maintenance. Anybody have any experience with LP?

I don't have experience with LP fired hydronic heater, but my diesel fired Espar is useless. It started breaking down after
one season and still doesn't work properly.
Customer service is the worst I've ever experienced with any product. These things are ridiculously expensive and very complicated and finicky. The install location is so tight, you have to remove a wheel and the starter motor every time you need to service it. How cold does it get in Wisconsin anyway? Here in Wawa, -30 to -40
degrees celsius is not uncommon. Even so, I will never again make the mistake of purchasing an ESPAR.

How about just useing a a gasoline generator to run the block heater?700 watt block heater would only take a 12 pack sized generator, under $300. Wouldn't have the fancy timers but at least it would work and you could use the generator for something else most of the year.

How about a LP RV water heater and a circulating pump? Sounds like a cheap way to get what you want. Even the smallest water heater would do the job.

Or how about a high output electric water heater, if you can always plug in.
