no ray, the egt's you are seeing are perfect, once you get over 1400 and up then you should worry.

I am not understanding why everyone is eeing high temps?

Starting to wondering if i have my probe in the wrong spot???

I have it pre-turbo and really getting on the throttle it gets to 1000 or so and thats about it... . Keep in mind thats basically stock and empty.....

Do those EGT's Sound right?

idle between 200 and 350

Cruisin at 65-68 mph its about 600-650

WOT 1000-1100

Exhaust Gas Temp is a direct relationship to the power requirement placed on the engine.

Low power requirement (empty pickup) the temps will be low.

You should not ask more power from the engine that would put EGT (Preturbo) above 1200 and post turbo above 900. These are sustained temps. I suppose arguments can be made for higher numbers for very short periods.

Thats about what I get empty, some of those High EGT are towing or climbing a steep hill.

I have both a '98 12 valve (with #8 plate and 4" turbo back exhaust) and a '06 stock. I can say that the new truck hits higher EGT's than the older one under basically the same conditions. I assume it's because it has more power, even with the mods on the '98. Different trucks will show varying temps as will different driving techniques and conditions. The EGT's you list look quite reasonable to me for a stock truck.

I've been seeing higher EGT's on my stock '06 with AT as well. The Autometer gauge port is pre-turbo. When I climb some pretty long hills unloaded at 60 mph, I can hit 1300+ without much trouble. Pulling my 10K lb. 5th wheel uphill, it'll stay over 1450, if I'm not careful. I'm not sure what "safe for short periods of time" means, but when the hill is 6 miles long and I'm only running 35 mph, and getting passed by gassers pulling heavier loads, I know something's wrong. My elevation here is around 6000 ft.

I had the local diesel shop check the temps on each exhaust port... the #5 is running about 80 deg. higher than the others. Unfortunately, there's no place around here to test it under load. It'll be going into the Dodge shop before I pull the 5th wheel again next Spring. I had heard that Bosch has changed the part numbers on the injectors already.
