I've had my '01 ETH for 3 days now. All is good except for my parking brake. When I release it, the engagement pedal springs so hard that it recoils and lightly sets the parking brake again, so i have to release it again. Will this lighten up as the entire truck breaks in?

BTW: So far I am impressed w/ the truck entirely especially the brakes. My '90 would've taken it off the line but once I hit 2000rpm, the thing is a relative rocket in comparo.

Joe, haven't had that problem with my ETH/DEE, brake works fine and I use mine at every stop. If yours is a 01. 5 with the disc on the rear, yes they work great!! Pete

Mine has the rear discs so yes it is an '01. 5
I think I'm just engaging the parking brake too hard. I just went outside and set the brake but only a couple inches, it held the truck even in neutral... when I released the p brake, it didn't recoil and reset the brake. Chalk it up to user error. I'm still trying to get used to it, all those gears, really good brakes and where the truck likes to pull in the rev band.
Like night and day compared to my 1990.

I've had my 2001. 5 Ram since October and i've had a somwhat different problem with my parking brake. When I release it, the pedal doesn't have enough return spring to fully disengage the brake. The parking brake warning light stays on untill i reach down and pull the pedal up the remaining distance. I plan on having the dealer look at it this week, when I bring it in for an inspection sticker.

I have the same problem on mine, (parking brake doesn't return fully) but that's my only complaint in 4 months and 5,000 miles #ad
. I'm so happy to have a truck that brakes and steers straight I'm not going to bother them with this.

racer39, same same. Guess I should get it checked out, thought it might be the moisture and temp thing but that ussually goes away when it warms up and it has,nt.

Joesoot, JNutter:

-> Upon delevery, my e-brake recoiled strongly sort of like what you are experiencing. Mine didn't re-engage though... . My solution: Pull on the release lever SLOWLY and the brake releases slowly without the startling WHACK. This may solve your problem of the brake resetting itself.

Mine did the same thing. I would try to cushion the strong release by holding my foot on the pedal and letting it up slowly. I noticed when I just let it release on its own the light doesn't stay on. .

Live and learn. I love my new truck. I do miss the throttle control of the P 7100 on my 94. I hate the new electronic controls feeding more fuel when taking off and trying to ease around (backing etc. ) in a tight space in a parking lot.

The new H. O is awesome on power. First tank mileage was 16. 5 mpg. I almost s**t. My 94 averaged 21. 5 mpg over 122,000 miles, towing and all. Towing I would guess was only about 10% of that total however. Fuel mileage has increased with every fill-up and now at approx. 5,500 miles, the last two tanks have been 21. 5 mpg, so I'm happy again!!

I need to hurry up and get my 5th wheel hitch installed to put this baby to work... . if we can find time.
