I have a 2000 3500 with the six speed (ETC DEE). Are there any advantages/disadvantages to this combination? I read somewhere that the higher compression of the ETH is really only for cold start emissions. True?

So far I love it. Mileage is great, 17-21 mpg empty. All stock for now, 4" exhaust and brake will be added this spring.

Thanks

You have a rare truck and a great transmission. IMHO, the 6 speed is more important than the HO engine. I don't think that DC should even offer the 5 speed.

I've got the ETH. I think I get a slightly stronger clutch as part of the deal, but from the discussion on South Bend clutches that is something that is easily fixed when you are ready for your first clutch replacement/upgrade. I believe there are pros and cons to the ETH/ETC choice; ETH may be more likely to have head gasket problems if heavily BOMB'd for example, due to the slightly higher compression ratio. ETH, ETC - either way a great truck. Enjoy!
