If you bought the extended warranty, that does not go into effect for 2 years, and for whatever reason the dealer voided your DC warranty (and your extended - can't do one with out the other), do you get your money back on the purchase price of the extended? Or are you SOL and out the $1500 you spent for the coverage?

I bought a used car for my wife this past spring along with an extended waranty. After having the troubles I'm having with the ext. war. on my truck I decided I should just cancel the war. on the car. I was able to do so only because I did it within 60 or 90 ( Cant remember which) days of purchasing the car. You might be able to do the same. I worked the cost of the war. into the financing of the car so the check will be going toward the principal on the loan rather than to me. Your situation is a bit different. It couldn't hurt to call and ask. Your ext. waranty may not be voided as the factory war. is. Good luck, I won't ever buy another non-factory ext. waranty again.

Alright, this sounds fun. Well, ethically, i would say YES, you should be refunded for the extended warranty if it is cancelled prior to its use (i. e. before the basic warranty runs out) minus a few "processing fees". But, in the real world i doubt it would every happen. I'll even bet you have to sign something along those lines when you buy it that forfeits your money if it is voided. I think harley davidson has some kind of reimbursement plan for warranty money that isn't used. There are a bunch of harleys in my family but I can't remember. Someone else might chime in on that.

Just out of curiosity, what did the dealer void your warranty for? As far as I know, they can only deny warranty work if you did something to cause the failure. That doesn't void the whole warranty. i. e. you remove your muffler, and the transmission goes out. These aren't related, so the dealer should honor the transmission warranty. But he won't honor the warranty on the exhaust system. I was also under the impression they have to prove whatever you did was the cause of the failure. As far as the refund on the extended warranty goes, you should get a full refund, because you aren't into the ext. warranty period, yet. Refunds on extended warranties are pro-rated by mileage, and time. At least that's what every ext warranty I've ever dealt with has said, along with the warranty "salesman". Harley's warranty doesn't work the same as most car dealers, from what I read of it.

We turned in a 2000 Durango that we leasing when we purchased the truck. We got a check for a significant amount of the cost of the extended warranty. I would check the paperwork that came with the extended warranty, it may specify what happens when you terminate it early.

I think there are some warranty enhancements you get with the extended warranty that go into effect on day one. So, even if you were to get a refund it would not be the full price you paid for the extended warranty.

I canceled mine within the first year and did not get the full amount back.

Extended Warranty

Read your contract. I had an aftermarket warranty that I used to get a rebuilt transmission after the factory warranty had expired. Later I sold the car(before the extended warranty expired) and was able to get the prorated value of the warranty back. I could have also transfered it to the new owner for a fee, but I sold the car at wholesale, so I was in no mood to sweeten the deal at that point. :{

I bought an extended warranty with my truck when I purchased it as I wasn't planning on modding the engine! :rolleyes: That lasted all of a month and then I figured out the warranty was going to be useless. About a year later I heard that someone had gotten their extended warranty refunded so I gave it a shot. Told them the mileage was 34,000 miles and they refunded the whole thing!! :cool:

My warranty has not been voided yet. I am having VP issues right now, and I am in the throws of returning my truck to stock form for a trip to the dealer. The EZ has been off for a week, and the AFE comes off this weekend.

Neither Edge, or myself (lots of research on TDR related threads) feel that the EZ was the cause of the VP problem, so morally I have no problem having DC replace it.

I just want to get my ducks in a row in case I get a service writer that is quick to jump the el-voido stamp, if they dig deep enough to pull operational data from the PCU.

According to Edge, the EZ only operates within the parameters set by Bosch for the VP44. My only hassle will be that the turbo has gone beyond the 20psi.

Canceled my extended warranty after 18 months, and I used it one time and got 75% of the money back. Just tell your selling dealer you want it canceled.
