Just wondering- When purchasing from TDR vendors, should TDR membership be mentioned? And if so, are there any particular benefits? Does the Vendor want to know so as to justify their ad budget. . or is it a waste of breath to claim membership? Thanks-

From previous experience, do a search and see if a vendor offers a discount. If they do, mention membership. If they don't, don't mention it - sounds like you're asking for something above and beyond if you do - at least that was my feeling.

Kinda why I am asking.

I didnt know if the mention of membership is a indication that you want something extra, or if the vendor gives a hoot. I know it can be taken either way.

Thanks for the reply-

As a vendor and TDR member I feel you should always mention you are a TDR member. It always helps knowing how people find us. I personally wouldn't feel you were looking for a discount by mentioning you were a member and there would always be a possibility that a discount could be offered. Hope this helps, Diana.

Agree

I agree. The more vendors you let know you heard about them (or made a purchase from them) thanks to their support of the TDR, the better for the TDR and its members. That will help vendors see that their dollars invested here are some of the best advertising dollars they spend.

Thanks!

ABSOLUTELY!

Vendors want and need to know the effectiveness of their various advertising $$$ and board sponsorships - it benefits both them AND the customer. Always a good idea to mention where you heard of them and their products - and also nice to thank them for their support!

If they DO offer a discount for what they offer to TDR members, you'll get it - if not, they will appreciate YOUR appreciation! ;) :D

The problem is that some members try to extort vendors with the "I'm gonna tell the TDR" bs. Or a member that airs their dirty laundry (one sided). You know how it goes... one bad apple. That's why my previous company did away with the TDR discount.

I always try to talk to the specific vendors on here. If not them directly... it is someone that has a lot of dealings with them. When I call and talk to said vendors I say, "Hey is James from the TDR or that I was talking to "_____" on the TDR forums and they sent me your way. I never expect a discount with anything, TDR related or not. Its is nice to get one every now then though...

Diana- Your answer is what I was looking for, and Robin's input is appreciated.

While I like a money savings as much as the next guy- I hate to sound like I am asking for something, or trying to haggle.

(I'm just no good at it- so I dont bother trying)

Its very nice to know its not taken that way!
