Glad to hear you were able to find someone to come to the house for you. I recently had someone send me something that really made this hit home for me, anyway. God bless your family as you go through this difficult time. I'll pm you the words they sent me. If anyone else wants it, let me know also.

Roy old pal......

dog people are special..... There is hardly nothing like the love of a dog - it is unconditional..... and there are few subjects that will make me cry my eyes out like the loss of a best friend... . nothing. I know what you have went through... . it sucks as bad as things can get... Reading your post and writing this is also done with tears streaming down my face... . whatever you do get another dog... ... they will never be a replacement... but a tribute to your loss.....

We all remember the dogs that have made us who we are..... dog people are different... . my youngest lab (sophie) is 2 and is watching me write this -

This was a Fantastic Twlight Zone Episode that always helped me.....

Watch it here..... it is about as good a show as you will ever see... ... ...

The Twilight Zone (1/2 hr) - The Hunt

Also - somebody mentioned Rainbow Bridge - here it is... .

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together... .

and From Orvis Company... ... while mentioning Retreivers - we know this applys to all our Pups... ...

Dogs in our Lives!

"We aren't house proud. If we were, we wouldn't abide the scratches on the door frame, the holes in the screen, the darkened shine of worn spots on the chair. We would wince at the mottled carpet and fret at the hair clinging to our clothes.

"We don't. If anything, we lovers of dogs, are a tolerant lot, finding greater value in the unabashed affection of our friends than in immaculate sofas. Shoes can be replaced, but heroic retrievers are timeless.

"Without dogs, our houses are cold receptacles for things. Dogs make a fire warmer with their curled presence. They wake us, greet us, protect us, and ultimately carve a place in our hearts and our history. On reflection, our lives are often referenced in parts defined by the all-too-short lives of our dogs. Prayers go out to you... ... while some may scoff---they are ignorant and have never had the deep love and affection that only a Dog can give you... . folks who have never experienced this -- live a diminished life... .

Thank you for being a friend!

The kindest words written.

Molly is buried at a dove hunting spot in Butte County. She went thinking she was hunting.

I'm glad you were able to lose your friend in such a personal way, we don't often get those chances.

Those two Quail at her feet were her first double retrive. (Two birds on one return)

Tears sent. Mike

Royk, My heart goes out to you and your family. I have always had Dobermans. We are on numbers 5&6 right now. It is so hard when they pass. They are a special breed,so much part of the family. I know how much you think of Nikki, and how silent your home is now. God Bless

Royk, I just came across this thread... glad you could get things taken care of at home. My thoughts are with you.

I have been able to do such a procedure for a few of my friends in the past few years. It truly is an honor to be able to help friends during such a rough time. My father and his wife raise, train and show Goldens, and they just got their first German Shepherd for police work. Sometimes, a friend who is a nurse or a paramedic can be your best friend when you have a pet in distress.

Sorry for your loss. Just reading this thread brings tears to my eyes. About 7 years ago I had to have my golden retriever "Bear" put down. I cried like a baby! I still miss him. We were stationed in Montana, and had no plans to stay there, and the wife and I couldn't bear to think of him going to the dump after being put down so we paid $75 to have him cremated. I figured that was the least I could give to him after almost 13 years of loyalty. Unfortunately, my dog Cleo is now 7 years old and this thread makes me sad to think that we only have a few more years left with her...

Grieve

Give yourself some time to grieve, I usually ball like a baby when our "Kids" pass away. But, I start hearing them bark in the eve to be let in from the backyard, it is then time to check the local pound for another wonderful addition to family, and put memory (picture) on the wall. We have a wall with eight former members. . Every once in awhile I sit and remember the attributes of each critter, gives me a laugh, and fond feelings that they lived full happy lives with us. . Keep the faith. .
