Hi all, this is my first post since joining the TDR. I thought you might appreciate this. I have a 2002 Cummins that is mostly stock. I also have a bird dog (lab g. shorthair cross). We have noticed that since I started driving my Cummins, he gets excited and barks whenever a Cummins goes by the house. We get a lot of Diesel traffic by the house, but he only barks at Cummins. It is not a mean bark, it is a bark that says take me along. That is one smart dog if you ask me.

I've already been contemplating a name for my next dog... something to do with diesels...

Torque?

Smoke?

Welcome, and watch your wallet... it'll only get lighter around these guys. :D

my dogs' names

My dogs:

one was Turbo, The other Nitrous, and the 3rd was Blower.

They have all departed this world.

No joke.

My dog perks up with the sound of a diesel also.

I am not sure if it is a cummins thing though... ... ... ... . My freinds all drive cumminsOo. Oo.

I agree, that is one smart dog. I would be completely proud of my pooch if I found out he could tell the difference between a cummins and others. I need to test him somehow.

Welcome to the TDR!!!!!

Sounds like you have one cool dog!! My dogs are the same; when I get home, they are barking, and cannot wait to see me... . Neighbor has a PSD, and his dog plays with both of mine, so when he hears either truck, he knows its playtime!

Last summer I was on disability all summer. I took the dog to the beach a lot. She got to the point that if she saw my pickup, she'd just jump in the bed.

One day she did, but the gate was up. Scratched the living heck out of the paint, but I didnt get mad. :D

Usually she's much smarter than that.

In our neighborhood, we have a Duramax, school busses, and even a Peterbuilt. He only wants to ride with the best. (I suppose the CAT powered Peterbuilt would be OK;) .

My Mom owns a Border Collie. Whenever I go to visit my parents and I pull up the sidewalk in front of the house and idle the truck. My Mom says that when the dog is inside, she (the dog) will run to the door and start whining. But I guess it doesn't take a Border Collie to figure out which truck is the best. :-laf :-laf :-laf

I have 15 rental units and my tenants run and hide when they hear my truck. I borrow my roommate's Bonneville when I need a stealth vehicle.

My dog is the same way. He's half Lab and half Husky. When I had my Dmax he always knew when I came home and dad told me he would go and look if he heard another diesel. Now he really knows when I'm there and growls at me if I don't let him out to come visit. Only bad thing is, he goes and visits the truck first and not me. He sniffs every inch of the truck first then he comes to me to get petted. He also loves to take a ride in it too... seems to like looking down at everything.

Our 4 year old male tri-color Sheltie thinks that any time I fire up the truck we're going to hitch up the 5th wheel and go RVing, so he heads for the truck and wants in. Once inside, he will sit on the center flip-down console on a non-skid pad and help drive.

The only problem is that he will head for any ISB that fires up and want in. He ignores Powerstrokes and Duramaxes. ;)

My dogs all run around the corner of the house and look whenever they hear a diesel coming up the mountain even if we are home. My Mules and Horses will also come up to the fence where we feed at if a diesel pulls in or drives by. They associate the sound of a Cummins with feed. :D

I was watching some show on dogs about a year ago. They were able to determine that dogs were able to distinguish the difference in sound among identical vehicles. This could be on a case by case basis.

I am glad to see so many of us love dogs. I don't think mine can tell the difference between CTDs. My Cousin pull in to our house with his CTD, and my dog thinks its me.

Sometimes when my dog goes for a run around the neighborhood I can call and call and he will not come back. Fire up the Dodge and he'll come running. With the 5" exhaust I have a better range of control. :D

My Chesepeke Bay Retriver does the same. He spin around in his kennel and perks up. I also have a download of a ISB start up on the desk to of the computer he will jump up and look out the window when its played. I think I have attached it below.
