Fellow Rammers:

I'll be the first to start this:

Today, I was running on my aux fuel tank and the low fuel light came on, so I ran another 75 miles. I came up to our rural mailbox got out and got the mail. Just then the truck dies. It was sitting on slope. Yep, it ran out of fuel. i did switch to primary tank and about 15 minutes got her started.

I did this also in downtown DC when I first installed the tank. Got a lot of police attention just three blocks from the White House.

Should learn to switch when the light comes on.

Anyone top that?

Top this!!!

Back in 1998 I sold my very clean '91. 5 Dodge Cummins and bought a PSD! Only stayed stupid for about 18 months of fuel knocks and cackles, bad torque converters (3 of them) before I swerved into the Dodge dealer and traded in that POS PSD!

Ron,

I thought the aux tank was there so you DON'T run out of fuel. :)

How's things goin' down there? As far as stupid stuff, yeah, I can top that probably a hundredfold - but I'll keep that to myself. :D

Later.

Two years ago at school I forgot to set the parking brake on my truck after starting it and going back inside ( it was cold). Well needless to say she rolled from what I thought was a level parking space into the ditch behind the school  Thank God she didn't roll over because she sure could of with the way that ditch went down. After rolling about 200 ft. the front tire blew out and she stopped. The only thing I needed to replace was a tire, steering box, track bar and all of the shocks:rolleyes: Truck now steers better than it did when it was new. . Go figure... :p

Theres not enough room in this whole forum to cover what I've done. My wife would be more than happy to help if I would let her. ;)

The parking brake thing got me too, in my driveway. I turned it off and ran inside for just a minute. Came back out, truck wasn't there, all was quiet, I hadn't heard a sound. Looked across the cul-de-sac 150' away and saw it in the neighbors front yard. Good thing it went right between a fire hydrant and his brick mailbox. I went over, started it and drove off. I called home later in the afternoon when my wife was home and told her, because I knew the neighbor would be wondering why there were ruts in his yard. Nice guy, he wasn't mad, just commented that a non-running truck could sure sneak up on someone!

That brings to mind the story of being stuck in a school teachers front yard, but I'll save that for another time.

I've done more stupid things than I'll admit to here, most of them when I was between 14 and 21 years old. One of those was driving an International Cub tractor up a steep hill. I was smart enough to recognize that I was in trouble, but too stupid to know what to do about it. Fortunately, the hill was not too steep. Whew!

More recently, two stupid acts combined to make for a scary situation. I borrowed the neighbor's trailer. He told me that it took a 1 - 7/8" ball, and I believed him (Stupid #1). Then I failed (forgot) to attach the safety chains when I hooked it up (Stupid #2). The trailer passed me on the highway as I made a turn at an intersection. I was scared that it would cross the divider and run head-on into a van full of kids, but fortunately it swerved right and rubbed along the guard rail until it stopped. I installed a 2" ball before I pulled that trailer home.

Sometimes life's lessons are relatively cheap. Sometimes they cost someone his life. I got away cheap those times.

I share the same sentiment as Bill did above.

Also, before I got married, one day I was taking the then girlfriend's (now ex-wife) car to a gas station to air up the tires. I was in college at the time and didn't have an air compressor. I was only going to be there for a moment, so got out, left engine running, drivers door open. As I was taking the air hose around the back side of the car, I heard Slam! Looked up to see the hose had caught the drivers door and slammed it shut... :{

Fortunately, the girlfriend was at home and only 2 blocks away. She got in my Toyota pickup and came to my rescue.

always doin' stupid stuff

totally stock drivetrain... doin' burnouts... caught 2nd gear, still burnin' 'em... caught 3rd gear, still burnin' 'em... let off... BLAM! Blew the rear diff. (see sig)

Changed the oil...

in the old '92 CTD back in '96. Put 3 gallons in only to have it start running out between my feet as I finished the 3rd gallon. I then reinstalled the drain plug and drove 30 miles to town and purchased 3 more gallons of oil.

I agree with Bighammer... this is just the one that stands out with the CTDs.

So little time... so many opportunities!:D

Okay - not CTD related... . I headed home for the weekend and had to stop in a little rest area... left the car running and did my duty...coming back I realized that I locked the car. A nice looking cloud of rain was coming... as I pulled into the area, a State Patrol was just leaving... no one else around... choose to break the window - chose the small rear one, figured at the time it would be cheaper to replace and easier to cover with tape. When I got back home, I stopped at the dealer and found out the little window was $450 bucks!! Luckly a salvage yard had one and got it for $75 and another $50 to get it installed... .

Leason learned: Hide a key somewhere on the car OR break the passenger window.

I treat my truck like gold and the only body damage my truck has was caused by me. Backing into the boat trailer... . two separate times!!!!

I felt like such an a-hole!

Yep... Went back to the ex over and over for 8½ years... some times were good, some not so good... we just broke it off this past new year's... for being 23, 8 years is a long time to be with someone! that's my mistake. Like I learned. Step in s**t, wipe it off... step in it again, its your fault! You knew it was there!
