leaky lights

jsimpson:

i just had my left sport headlight out this past w/e. i had a bulb explode in it, and it fogged up the reflector, and left glass shards in the light. i figured that rather than turn the truck over to shake the headlight, i'd remove the headlight. there are two places where it could leak--the bulb sockets. be sure that your bulbs don't have a defective o-ring gasket. the other place is the lens to reflector. this is sealed with what appeared to be polyurethane, to me. i considered taking the lens off to clean the reflector, but decided against it. IF the light is new, i'd try to get the dealer to replace it if it is the lens to reflector leaking. if not guaranteed, try to take the lens off and clean and reseal. if it is a bad bulb, dry the light out--soft cotton cloth on end of a piece of 1/2" heater hose worked for me-- and install a new bulb. ;)
