Exceptional Customer Service - Cummins Southern Plains

4500 and 5500 CTD's

A week or so ago I saw a powerpuke hauling what looked like a relatively light load. The back end of it was really squating down like it was hauling a real heavy load. (It was a flatbed trailer with a light load) I then started to notice that powerpukes seem to squat down in the back no matter how light the load... even a two by four or a box of Oreo cookies seems to push the powerpukes load envelope. Well maybe that's a little extreme but take notice then next time you see a powerpuke with a load.

P. S. I thought Ford was gonna get their act together when thay got rid of the V8 powerpuke and went to a six cylinder. I had envisioned an inline six cylinder like the Cummins and they went to a V6 configuration. When are them Ford boys gonna learn. Well... 10 years from now maybe the next generation powerpuke will be done the right way. My old '02 Cummins will probably still be clattering away or maybe on it's 7th owner. ;)

The six cylinder they were talking about offering was a smaller v6 version for the light duty trucks. I am not sure if they dropped that plan or not. After the horrible debut of the 6. 0, they better let it rest for a while.

HillBilly...

Looks like you have the same truck as me except mine is white.

P. S. I was in Weatherford twice last month. Had breakfast at the IHOP next to the freeway and went into the Tractor Supply too looking at some fuel tanks. Maybe we can get together for a bite to eat next time I'm through there.

Hi Eric...

What have you been up to lately? Everything has been about the same here lately. How's your truck doing? I saw a picture you posted with a tire in your truck bed. Are you carrying two spares now.

Yes... Praise all that is holy that I have a Cummins instead of a powerpuke.

about that PHURD V-6...

saw in this month's Truck Trend that Ford paid off Navistar to DUMP the project. too big a deal with cost and emissions i guess

Yep... Went to the powerpuke site and they are touting the 6. 0 liter V8 powerpuke manual/auto puts out 560 foot pounds of torque to the Cummins H/O manual's 555 foot pounds of torque. MAN!!!! You guys need to get rid of those 2003 H. O. 's and get the puker so you can have that 5 extra pounds of torque... Yeah... . Count 'em 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... .

Then you can use that extra torque to haul 250 pounds in the bed and have the rear end squat down and sag like a Toyota pickup truck would. ;)

By the way... I looked at the towing specs and it looks like the powerpuke according to the Ford website maxes out at 13,600 towing capacity and the capacity of the 2003 Cummins Ram according to the Dodge website is 16,500. Hmmm... What happened to those FIVE extra pounds of torque? Heck even my lower output 2002 H. O. is rated at 13,650 and the higest rating for a 2002 is 14,700

Like I said in my original post...

WHEN ARE THEM FORD BOYS GONNA LEARN? :D

03 CTD 2500 HO 48RE 269 HP 543 TQ (STOCK!)

03 PSD 250 6. 0 Auto 288 HP 425 TQ (with bad/malfunctioning BD chip)

03 PSD 250 6. 0 Auto 387 HP 547 TQ (with working BD chip - his only non spiked run of three)

03 PSD 350 6. 0 Auto 310 HP 652 TQ (100 HP diablo and I question the accuracy of that torque #)

More HP stock, but nowhere near the torque!

Okay I figured it out- spongy PoSD's

The Phords are soft for two reasons. First to avoid upsetting the bridge club (four doors you know)when unloaded or spooking the horses when She's pulling them.

Reason 2. It's to make the guys feel like they're REALLY hauling something--"boy that really did SQUAT her down there. Must be REAL heavy. Pulls like it ain't that heavy. "

I've actually caught myself thinking along the lines of #2. I see a PoSD loaded and unlevel and think that it must be a pretty good load.

Now I know different. :p  :D

I thought this discussion by the title would have been if anybody had noticed how defensive powerjoke owners get when you mention you drive a CTD. My bro-in-law has a f350 srw. He's coming to our Wyo get together tonight. He said he was going to drive his Audi. My neighbor is the same way, he's driving his car. I told them both, we're not like the Hell's Angels gang, we're not going to dump diesel fuel on it and light the flower smoke on fire! Border line pathetic.

The powerstroke guys I know swarm around me. They are like vulchers. I don't get upset, though. I drive what I want, and they drive what they want. Its all fun in the end.

It's amazing how many powerstrokes i see around. They're all lifted with big tires and nice and shiny with chrome everywhere too. I have an 02, and well frankly its hammered. Its dirty all the time, dents on the bed on the rails, huge scratches... it's a truck and it gets used like one. All the dodges around here are work trucks and farm trucks, people beat um up and haul loads... the guys with the ford's don't do that around here.

Always makes me wonder what kind of "men" they are, more worried about looks then function.

Ask my wife my response when some ford pulls out on the road... my only word is JACKASS. I honestly think you could sell some of those ford guys a pile of crap wrapped in plastic with wheels... they're that die hard ford.

Now i'm a ford guy at heart... i love 65 mustangs and loved my 79 ford hi-boy... . the funnest truck i've owned. But frankly they just build crap nowadays and i won't stand for owning that junk.

Fords are lifted higher in front

Just got back from California last week and noticed on nearly all the powerstrokes that were lifted the fronts were quite a bit higher than the rears,I asked someone what the deal was and they said it was purely cosmetic and that it was the baja look they wanted.

"I honestly think you could sell some of those ford guys a pile of crap wrapped in plastic with wheels":-laf :-laf :-laf

Where have you been! That's exactly what happened!

Now if they'd stretch those six spindely little connecting rods out into a straight line, and get over that pressurized motor oil injection system with Seimens injectors:rolleyes: they might be able to come up with something. But noooo, they put the most troublesome part of the engine in the most difficult place to get to. Right under the turbocharger that's also misplaced on top of the motor instead of along side it where it belongs. And half aluminum half iron cylinder heads? And glow plugs? Maybe on a Cox model airplane motor but on a light duty gas engine conversion diesel? And people buy this stuff? :-laf :-laf

GREAT bumper sticker!

"Glow plugs are for toy airplanes!"

'Round here, ford boys work their trucks too, it's the shiny shevvies you'll never see in the field.

Biker gang--yeah, that's what I need a blue "C" tattooed on my bicep. Oo.

Speaking of heavy loads, I saw a 3500 pulling a log skidder on interstate in AL the other day.

My thought exactly. I would say 80 percent of all P/S's are lifted at least 3 inches with more chrome and shine than your labor day car show. I would hate to think of the hours and hours they spen underneath there truck washing the frame and drivetrain. My poor truck sees the devils ass every day, hasnt been washed in 3 months and i could grow soybeans on the dash. But its a real truck, it works. Aloha

Hey guys, maybe its an imagine thing. Ever heard the slogan "You can't make ***** shine"

The ford guys must be proud... my piece of ***** shines brighter than yours!!!! hehehe :D :-laf :-laf

after three diesel rams, i own a Ford now. and let me just tell you this. everything you all just said is true! :D

just a few random thoughts: I hate it, i dont want it, its slow, it keeps breaking, no power, rides like a log wagon after a three day rain, cant pull itself out of an intersection let alone a load, doesnt pull a trailer worth a ****.

BUT... . my wife looks cool droppin off the kiddies and we cant fit three carseats in anything with a Cummins out of the Dodge camp. so until that day comes, I'm stuck with it!

PERIOD.

help a guy out, ask Dodge to build a REAL crew cab

Ever heard a PSD with a straight pipe?

They sound like they're running on 7 cylinders.

Nothing better than a straight piped Cummins. Even in the big trucks, the Cummins sounds the best with a straight pipe.

I always get a chuckle when a PSD driver sees me dumping fuel treatment in at the Diesel pump. They usually ask: "What is that for??". I usually give 'em some BS like "It increases horsepower 10%!":D
