Exceptional Customer Service - Cummins Southern Plains

4500 and 5500 CTD's

There is a pretty even ratio of PSD drivers to Cummins drivers where I fill up. I usually have a short conversation with any Cummins driver that is there at the same time as me.

As for the PSD drivers, they usually give some kind of " I am a superior life form to you because I drive a mighty SUPERduty " look.  I usually just give them a grin when I start the Cummins and pull away. I'm not to eager to start too much YET as I have no BOMBs for power YET.

I've also noticed the exhaust from a PSD smells different then Cummins exhaust, why is this ?? I like Cummins smell much better. :)

Hey, Y'all forgot WHERE

the torque comes on; 1400 rpm CTD vs 2000rpm PSD. I've seen gassers with lower peak torque rpms. I have yet to drive a 6. 0, but have yet to see a7. 3 PSD out do a 6. 9/7. 3 NA. Drove a new '01 in Nov00- Jan01, and hated it. NO get up at all; after 2500 rpm, it was decent, but still not enough to brag about. And the owner was proud of the fact he towed his ALUMINUM 5-horse trailer all the way from MO in 3rd gear (auto 3. 73; 8ft LQ). I was tempted to hook up to his trailer and do a 2nd gear start, and go to 60 by the light 1/3 mi away, but figured it might get me fired. Got a whopping 13 mpg empty. He also mentioned my six cylinder, and I told him his Peterbilt has a 6, too. "Well, that's different. " Yeah, the sixes have real torque. He hit me with a trackhoe bucket "accidently" one day, and I flipped him off, got in his mighty "truck" and went back to the shop, got in mine and went home. Left him without a grade shooter. :{ :{

Perplexed Ford Driver.....

A few days ago, I'm driving down I-5 north of Eugene OR when I pass a new Ford 6. 0 crew cab pulled over in the "Breakdown Lane"... Nothing but farm land all around and four guys just sitting in it ... The driver had a baffled look on his face while the guy behind him looked disgusted..... Tires weren't flat... . Wonder what that was about?????

The driver bought the sales pitch and the extended warranty. :-laf

The guy behind him told him NOT to buy it--that they had problems that needed to be worked out AND that he might should look at a CTD. ;)

You know it might be a good idea to print out a few pages of the 6. 0 problems and make a few copies to hand out to stranded 6. 0 drivers. Heck, I think that's worth fixing my printer for!:D

after three diesel rams, i own a Ford now. and let me just tell you this. everything you all just said is true! :D

just a few random thoughts: I hate it, i dont want it, its slow, it keeps breaking, no power, rides like a log wagon after a three day rain, cant pull itself out of an intersection let alone a load, doesnt pull a trailer worth a ****.

BUT... . my wife looks cool droppin off the kiddies and we cant fit three carseats in anything with a Cummins out of the Dodge camp. so until that day comes, I'm stuck with it!

PERIOD.

help a guy out, ask Dodge to build a REAL crew cab

I have three car seats in the back of my 2000. Every time I look at a 2003 I am drooling over the evtra 4? inches in the back seat. :-laf :-laf

WadePatton...

You were talking about seeing a Ram 3500 hauling a log skidder the other day. Here in Texas, I know a man in the logging business. He has one of the early first gen Dodge CTDs. He has used this truck to haul his log skidders and his Cat D4 high sprocket dozer. Ran into him last year and at 600,000 miles, he finally burned a hole in a piston. Shortly after that conversation, I saw the truck back on the road again. I saw him in it a couple of weeks ago, so it is still running. :D He is known to be heck on equipment of any kind.

600k pulling stuff like that and he's "hard on equipment"---and there's a "why dodge?" thread:rolleyes:

Good thing I'm not hard on equipment. ;)
